Over 2,000 users reported problems with Anthropic's Claude AI Sunday evening, with the error message "response incomplete claude" trending on Google as the outage hit Claude Chat and Claude Code.
Issues started just after 8 p.m. ET on June 21, according to Downdetector data.
Most complaints centered on Claude Chat and Claude Code, Anthropic's developer-focused coding assistant. Some users reported being unable to access the app entirely.
The "response incomplete claude" error message quickly gained traction on Google searches as users scrambled for answers. Anthropic has not released a timetable for the fix, though similar outages for the AI assistant have historically been resolved within hours.
Claude's error documentation lists several possible causes for incomplete responses, including overloaded safety classifiers, expired authentication tokens, and API rate limiting. The Claude Code error reference notes that some failures produce no visible error message at all, only truncated output.
Sunday's outage follows a pattern of growing pains for Anthropic as Claude's user base expands across its free tier, Pro subscriptions, and enterprise API customers. The company operates Claude via both a consumer chat interface and a paid API that developers rely on for production workloads.
At time of reporting, Claude's status page had not posted an official incident notice for the outage. Anthropic's support documentation warns that capacity-related issues often do not appear on the status page because they represent "normal load management rather than technical problems."
No update on service restoration has been issued as of late Sunday night, however Downdetectors recent staus shows no curret problems with Claude AI.
