Motorola's 2027 flagship lineup will officially support GrapheneOS, starting with a regular non-folding device that GrapheneOS developers hinted at being the successor to the Signature. The modified Android OS, which strips out Google services while running normal Android apps with stronger security, will arrive through cooperation between GrapheneOS and Motorola, with the next-gen Razr Fold and Razr Ultra following the initial launch.
The upcoming Motorola devices with GrapheneOS support will "meet or exceed" GrapheneOS' official requirements, including seven years of "proper updates". Notably, Motorola itself is doing "a large portion of the work of porting GrapheneOS to their devices".
The phones will ship with Motorola's normal Android skin, and users will be able to switch to GrapheneOS later if they choose.
The timing hinges on silicon. The GrapheneOS Foundation wrote on Mastodon that the next generation of Snapdragon chips will meet its standards, which is why the OS is expected to land on Motorola devices in 2027.
All of these devices will use flagship Snapdragon chipsets, since those "provide much better CPU and GPU performance and more of what's needed via isolated components on the SoC".
As it stands today, the 2026 versions of the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra are "close" to meeting GrapheneOS requirements, missing a few features including memory tagging and secure element integration, both of which are supported on Pixel devices. GrapheneOS already supports the original Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and the OS maker also plans to add support for 11th-generation Pixel devices.
