Meta is rolling out Your algorithm on Facebook, letting users choose and manage topics that influence recommendations in Feed and Reels. The company is also introducing tools for people to describe their preferences in their own words, with Meta promising that recommendations will change during the same session.

Users can reach Your algorithm through the three-dot menu on posts, which Meta has revised to make the new controls easier to find. The feature provides a dedicated place to add topics people want Facebook to show them, as well as manage those interests directly. Meta has not specified which countries will receive the rollout.

A second route starts with feedback on an individual post in Feed or Reels: users select Interested or Not interested. Facebook may then ask additional questions about the parts of the post they liked or disliked, giving them an opportunity to explain their reaction in text. Those answers let people describe the content they want to encounter more often or less often, according to Meta.

Meta says large language models allow its recommendation systems to interpret the interests, circumstances and intentions expressed in that text. The company says those systems can respond immediately to a request, changing recommendations to reflect what a person wants at that moment while they continue using Facebook.

The text input joins information Facebook already uses to predict what someone might want to see. Those existing signals include viewing activity, comments and likes, alongside thousands of other inputs, according to Meta. The company says combining written feedback with that existing understanding will make Feed and Reels recommendations increasingly responsive over time.

Meta previously introduced Dear Algo on Threads, where users publish requests about their feed preferences and the resulting adjustments last three days. That feature initially reached the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, and users could apply another person's preferences by reposting their Dear Algo request.

Facebook's new approach puts topic management inside a post menu, whereas Dear Algo uses public posts to communicate preferences on Threads. The Facebook feedback tools also allow a preference request to begin with a reaction to a particular post, followed by an explanation of what prompted it.
