IKEA and XBOX have introduced YXSTABY, a nine-piece collection of furniture and home accessories that turns controller shapes into objects including a stool, cushion and platter. The collection’s store launch was October 1, with online sales scheduled for later this year. The companies say availability can differ from market to market, and buyers are directed to their local IKEA for information; prices were not disclosed.
The thumbstick stool takes its shape from the original 3D files for the XBOX Wireless Controller, which XBOX’s device designers supplied for the project. It also adapts the thumbstick’s textured grip for a different job: IKEA and XBOX say the surface helps someone sitting on the stool stay in position. The controller’s D-pad supplies the form for two other pieces, a cushion and a decorative platter made from shiny stainless steel.

For people who want to put gaming hardware on show, a mirrored display box is designed to reveal a controller from all sides, with room for figurines and other collectibles as well. Elsewhere in the range, a TV stand and side table have castors, giving those pieces a way to move around the home. A laptop support combines storage with accessories, while a monitor stand and gaming lounge chair extend the collection to screen placement and seating.
Designers from both companies collaborated on every item, bringing together seating, storage and other functions for gaming at home. IKEA and XBOX describe the collection as intended for both active gaming and relaxing on the sofa, with comfort and appearance among their design goals. Philip Dilé, Product Developer at IKEA, said the collaboration sought to adapt familiar shapes into functional objects that help people make gaming part of their living spaces.
The partnership’s August teaser had already shown a plate-like D-pad object, a thumbstick-shaped piece whose function was still unclear, and a green cross-shaped cushion. At that stage, the companies had not revealed product names, prices or availability details. Xbox also released the Designed for XBOX Cozy Collection in September, an accessories range spanning 8BitDo input devices, SteelSeries earbuds and KontrolFreek thumb grips, sold through the manufacturers’ websites.
