Hogwarts Legacy will add DLSS 5 on November 5, using AI to change how lighting and materials appear. NVIDIA lists support for every GeForce RTX 50 Series GPU, laptops in that range, GeForce NOW Ultimate and RTX Spark PCs in its announcement.
To enable the feature, players will need to download the game update and switch on Neural Rendering in the game settings. For GeForce and RTX Spark systems, NVIDIA also directs players to its next Game Ready Driver, scheduled for November 4 through the NVIDIA app.
According to NVIDIA, switching the option on improves environmental shadows and detail, adds texture detail to characters, adjusts shading and lighting, and makes reflections more vibrant. The Hogwarts Legacy implementation uses model controls to enhance environments while keeping character identity intact, with Avalanche Software working alongside NVIDIA on the integration.
The technology applies AI lighting and material detail at the final stage of rendering. It uses the frame produced by the game engine as its foundation, retaining the geometry, textures and lighting buffers designed by artists. Developers can select different models for particular scenes and adjust how strongly the visual changes apply.
NVIDIA's Hogsmeade comparisons illustrate the changes with clearer textures on weathered roofs and greater depth for moss against roof shingles. Window boxes and flowers receive localized lighting improvements and shadows. Another comparison shows stronger contact shadows within archways, deeper shading in foliage and more local contrast in stone wall crevices.
For its recommended setup, NVIDIA pairs Neural Rendering with Super Resolution, Multi Frame Generation and Reflex. It also recommends Ray Reconstruction when players enable ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy. The update completes the game's support for NVIDIA's DLSS technology suite.
