Google’s Personal Intelligence starts rolling out on Android Auto today, giving drivers hands-free Gemini help that draws on their personal information. Google says the feature can retrieve details from emails, photos and saved Google Maps places, and combine information across sources to answer requests. Cars with Google built-in are scheduled to receive it in the coming months.

Drivers who have enabled Personal Intelligence through the Gemini app will carry that preference into their car. Other users can choose their preferences through Gemini settings, where they can also disable the feature at any time. Google says apps remain disconnected until users opt in, and that cars with Google built-in share personalized responses only when the user is in the car with a connected phone.

Google says Gemini can answer a question about an airport gate and flight delays together, without requiring separate email and search lookups. It can also suggest restaurants on a driving route based on personal preferences, including vegetarian options. For an appointment, drivers can ask for directions to their doctor without supplying the address.

Other examples include identifying a car wash in a photograph taken the previous week and navigating to it, or recalling a coffee shop discussed the day before. Drivers who leave Personal Intelligence disabled can still get directions, play music, place calls and ask questions, but responses will lack personalization.

An earlier plan for personalized assistance involved Apple’s iOS 26.4 update, which was slated to bring Gemini-powered Siri capabilities in March or April. Those capabilities included understanding personal context, awareness of on-screen content and deeper controls within individual apps.
