Google's Gemini app is now available for Windows, giving PC users a desktop version of the assistant that opens on top of whatever they are working on. The app is available today worldwide for Windows 10 and 11, and can be downloaded from gemini.google/desktop.
The fastest way in is a keyboard shortcut. Pressing Alt + Space at any time brings Gemini up over the active window, so a user can check a fact in a document or brainstorm titles for a presentation and then return to the same screen. Google describes the app as lightweight and quiet, saying it runs without slowing the PC down.

Inside the app, Google says users get the same capabilities they already have in Gemini, plus a dedicated workspace for longer jobs. Multi-step tasks can be handed to Gemini Spark, which the company calls a 24/7 personal AI agent, and Gemini can draft a project summary using information pulled from Google apps including Gmail and Google Drive.
Image and video generation are part of the desktop package as well. Users can create custom images with Nano Banana for something like a presentation, or direct a video with Gemini Omni, all without leaving the app.
Google says this is only the start for Gemini on Windows and that more native desktop capabilities will arrive over time. The launch follows other recent Gemini pushes aimed at everyday tasks, including a set of ways the assistant handles administrative chores, described in a separate post the day before.
What the notice does not include is any pricing detail for the Windows app, and it does not say whether the desktop version differs in features from Gemini on the web or mobile beyond the shortcut and the workspace. The company also does not give a timeline for the additional native capabilities it says are coming.
For now, the announcement covers a download for PCs running Windows 10 and 11, out globally as of today, with Alt + Space as the entry point.
