US regulators have announced a recall of the Cambridge Audio Yoyo (M) portable Bluetooth speaker after reports that its lithium-ion battery can overheat and pose a fire hazard. About 714 units are covered by the recall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The speakers came in light gray, dark gray, and blue and were sold in pairs.
Owners can identify the affected product by the name Yoyo (M) and by FD numbers printed on the underside. The company, Audio Partnership, has received four reports of incidents involving fire, smoke, or ejection of battery material, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers are urged to stop using the speakers, disconnect them from power, stop charging them, and store them away from combustible materials. After Audio Partnership has handled the request, owners should dispose of the recalled battery according to local and state ordinances, not in the trash or general recycling; a household hazardous waste collection center may accept it.
Affected customers can choose a full cash refund of $218 or a $350 voucher for the Cambridge Audio online store. Federal law prohibits the sale of recalled products.
The recall follows other recent safety actions announced by the CPSC, including recalls of Amana through-the-wall air conditioners and heat pumps, accessory LED light kits, and Airedale ventilation fans, all citing fire risks.
