Apple has announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable handset, with a U.S. starting price of $1,999. The company will open pre-orders on October 16, with the first release set for October 23. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 2TB; buyers can choose star white or night sky.
The phone pairs a 5.4-inch outer screen with a 7.6-inch folding display inside. The larger screen supports two apps side by side, including two windows from the same app. Apple is moving controls such as the Dock and app navigation to the side, giving content more room vertically. The Duo will ship with iOS 27.1.

Apple's technical specifications list a titanium body measuring 5.2mm when open and 11.3mm when closed, at a weight of 254 grams. Both OLED screens support refresh rates up to 120Hz. The inner screen has a matte nano-texture surface intended to reduce reflections and the visibility of the crease.
Authentication uses a Touch ID fingerprint reader in the side button, with Apple Watch unlocking also supported. Apple Pencil support is planned for later this year and applies to the USB-C model. Inside, the Duo uses the A20 Pro chip with a vapor chamber to manage heat.
Two rear cameras each have 48-megapixel sensors: one main and one ultrawide. The main camera also provides a 2x view that Apple describes as optical-quality. A 12-megapixel Center Stage camera serves the outer screen, while a separate FaceTime camera sits beneath the inner display. The outer screen can show a rear-camera preview for selfies or people posing for a photo.
Apple rates local video playback at up to 44 hours on the outer screen or 31 hours on the inner one. Those are company test figures, not a measure of mixed everyday use. Its separate typical-use rating is up to 24 hours.
