Apple's major platform updates arrive today, with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27 all starting to roll out to users. The headline addition is Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant that Apple describes as powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and built into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro.
The catch is availability. Siri AI ships first as a beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support promised for October. Mac and Apple Vision Pro owners in the EU can use it when their device is set to a supported language, but the feature will not initially reach iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS users in the EU. Apple also notes that some features may be missing in certain languages or regions depending on local laws.

The assistant is designed to pull context from messages, emails, and photos, answer questions about what is on screen, and reach the web for current information. A Siri mode inside the iPhone Camera app lets users act on what they are looking at, such as splitting a bill and paying through Apple Cash or putting a custom pass into Wallet. Write with Siri can draft or refine text from a description, and a dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history through iCloud so a chat started on iPhone can continue on a Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, or Vision Pro.
Apple Intelligence also reaches existing apps. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an upgraded Clean Up tool, while Image Playground can now produce photorealistic images and is due to adopt the SynthID standard for identifying AI-generated content, Apple says. Safari can group tabs by topic, flag website changes such as restocks or price drops, and build custom extensions from a description.
Parents get a new child account setup flow that lets them pick which apps a kid can use from the start and add more later. Ask to Browse requires approval before a child opens a new website in Safari, and Communication Safety now blocks gore or violent content detected in shared images and videos. Screen Time has been redesigned with an at-a-glance view of average usage and top apps, daily time allowances across Entertainment, Games, and Social Media, and Schedules that control app access at different points in the day.
Apple is also promising speed gains. It says apps launch up to 30 percent faster on iPhone and iPad, photos load up to 70 percent faster after capture, and AirDrop transfers run up to 80 percent faster, with iPad file transfers to an external USB drive up to five times quicker. Vision Pro starts and connects to Wi-Fi up to three times faster, according to the company.
Smaller additions span several products: iCloud Shared Albums now share photos and videos at full resolution and make joining easier for Windows and Android users, Cycle Tracking in the Health app adds perimenopause and menopause support, AirPods gain custom EQ, and Apple TV adds lossless audio for Apple Music. The release follows Apple opening App Store submissions for the same OS versions on September 9, ahead of their public debut. It also lands roughly seven weeks after the security-focused macOS Tahoe 26.6 update, which patched flaws across components including WebKit, ImageIO, and Spotlight. Apple has not said when Siri AI will leave beta or when the EU restrictions on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch will lift.
