Anthropic plans to raise $10 billion at a $350 billion valuation, nearly doubling its worth from just four months ago. The Wall Street Journal reported the funding round on January 7, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management will lead the investment, which could close within weeks. The final terms may still change, according to people briefed on the discussions.

The new capital comes on top of up to $15 billion that Microsoft and Nvidia plan to invest in Anthropic. As part of that arrangement, the AI company will purchase $30 billion in compute capacity from Microsoft Azure running on Nvidia systems.

Anthropic's valuation surge follows its September 2025 funding round that valued the company at $183 billion. At that time, the company raised $13 billion and reported run-rate revenue growth from $1 billion to over $5 billion in eight months.

The Claude Code tool for developers generated over $500 million in run-rate revenue by August 2025, while business accounts topped 300,000. "We are seeing exponential growth in demand across our entire customer base," Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao said in September.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described the partnership as mutually beneficial. "We are increasingly going to be customers of each other," he said in a November statement alongside Nvidia's Jensen Huang and Anthropic's Dario Amodei.

Anthropic has raised at least $40 billion in total financing, according to PitchBook data. Amazon invested $8 billion in 2024 as its largest investor, while Google controls around 14 percent of the company with approximately $3 billion invested.

The AI investment boom shows no signs of slowing in 2026. Elon Musk's xAI announced a $20 billion funding round at a valuation exceeding $230 billion earlier this week. OpenAI reportedly plans its next round of up to $100 billion at a $750 billion valuation.

Silicon Valley AI startups raised a record $150 billion in 2025, surpassing the previous $92 billion record set in 2021. Companies like Anthropic and OpenAI attracted strong investor interest despite concerns about an AI bubble.

Anthropic expects to break even for the first time in 2028. The company is spending tens of billions on data center infrastructure, including a planned $50 billion investment in Texas and New York facilities with cloud company Fluidstack.

The San Francisco-based AI firm is the primary user of a massive Amazon data center in New Carlisle, Indiana, which consumes 2.2 gigawatts of electricity. That's enough power for approximately one million homes. The $11 billion Amazon data center project in Indiana represents one of the largest AI infrastructure investments in the US.

Founded in 2021 by Dario and Daniela Amodei, who left OpenAI over funding disagreements, Anthropic structured itself as a public benefit corporation focused on AI safety. The company is reportedly eyeing an initial public offering within the next 12 to 18 months.
