Anthropic dropped US dollar billing in India, letting users pay for Claude in rupees starting at ₹2,000 per month. The change eliminates the currency conversion fees and 18% GST surcharge that made Claude the most expensive premium AI subscription in the country.
India is Claude's second-largest market after the United States, but until now every subscription required payment in dollars. Indian users paid $20 per month for Claude Pro plus forex fees (typically 2%-3%) and 18% GST on top, pushing the effective cost well above the advertised price. The new India-specific pricing covers the full plan lineup.
Claude Pro runs ₹2,000 per month with annual billing (₹24,000/year) or ₹2,399 month-to-month. The plan includes a five-times usage boost over the free tier, access to Sonnet 5, Opus, and Fable 5 models, plus Research mode, unlimited Projects, Memory, web search, voice mode, Claude Code, and Microsoft 365 integration.
Claude Max comes in two tiers. The 5x version costs ₹11,999 per month; the 20x version hits ₹23,999 per month.
Both include priority access during peak demand, expanded Claude Code session limits, and early access to new features before they reach Pro subscribers. For teams, Anthropic set the Standard license at ₹2,399 per month (annual) or ₹2,999 (monthly). A Premium license runs ₹11,999 per month or ₹14,999 with monthly billing.
Team plans include a 200,000-token context window, API-rate usage credits, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, centralized billing, SSO, and domain capture. Anthropic does not train its models on Team user content. The free Claude plan remains available in India with access to Sonnet 5, Sonnet 4.6, and Haiku 4.5 models, web search, up to 20 file uploads per chat, and limited projects.
Competitors ChatGPT Plus and Gemini Advanced already offered localized INR pricing. Anthropic's move closes that gap for Claude's second-biggest market, where the company now processes payments entirely in rupees with GST included in the listed price.
