Allianz announced a global AI partnership with Anthropic on January 9, 2026, integrating Claude models across the insurance giant's operations. The collaboration focuses on three areas: workforce empowerment, operations automation, and regulatory compliance, with initial projects already underway according to company statements.
Anthropic's Claude models will become part of Allianz's internal AI platform, available free to all employees across the group. Claude Code, Anthropic's developer tool, is already being used by thousands of Allianz developers globally for software development tasks. Model Context Protocols will help employees securely connect and integrate data sources across different applications.
The partnership will develop custom AI agents capable of orchestrating multi-step workflows and automating labor-intensive processes. These include intake documentation and claims processing in motor and health insurance lines. Allianz maintains a human-in-the-loop principle where employees handle sensitive or complex cases.
Allianz and Anthropic are co-developing AI systems that log every decision, rationale, and data source to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance. This addresses insurance-specific risks and regulatory requirements in an industry where AI decisions can affect millions of people.
"Insurance is an industry where the stakes of using AI are particularly high," said Dario Amodei, CEO and Co-Founder of Anthropic. "Allianz and Anthropic both take that very seriously, and we look forward to working together to make insurance better for those who depend on it."
Allianz CEO Oliver Bäte added that Anthropic's focus on safety and transparency complements the company's dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust. The partnership builds on Allianz's existing AI implementations, including a multilingual voice assistant for roadside assistance and automated food spoilage claims processing in Australia.
The collaboration follows Anthropic's recent enterprise expansion, including a multi-year alliance with Accenture and a $200 million agentic AI deal with Snowflake. Anthropic reported in September 2025 that its business accounts had topped 300,000, with Claude Code generating run-rate revenue over $500 million.
Allianz manages approximately 761 billion euros on behalf of insurance customers and serves private and corporate clients in nearly 70 countries. The company achieved total business volume of 179.8 billion euros with an operating profit of 16.0 billion euros in 2024, employing over 156,000 people globally, according to Allianz's financial reports.
