To factory reset a Starlink router, connect to its WiFi, open the Starlink app, select Settings > Router > Factory Reset, then drag the slider. The app method requires a connected router associated with your account; you can also use the physical procedure for your model. A factory reset erases your WiFi name, password and settings, so you will need to set up the network again afterward.
The short version
- App reset: Connect to Starlink WiFi, open Settings > Router > Factory Reset, then drag the slider.
- Physical reset: Router 3, Router Mini, Starlink Mini and Gen 1 have model-specific reset buttons.
- Gen 2 reset: Disconnect and reconnect power six consecutive times, approximately 2 to 3 seconds apart.
- Afterward: Configure your WiFi name and password again and reset connected mesh nodes.

Choose between a reset and a restart
Use a factory reset when you want to erase the router’s WiFi credentials and settings. If you only need to restart your Starlink-provided router or Starlink Mini, disconnect both ends of the power cable and remove power from the power supply. Leave everything disconnected for at least 10 seconds, then reconnect it and monitor the Starlink app. This restarts the equipment without deliberately clearing its configuration.
Change only your WiFi name or password
If you only need new WiFi credentials, you can change them without a factory reset. For non-aviation customers with access to their Starlink WiFi and account, connect to that WiFi, sign into the app and open Settings. Under Router Configuration, select your network, enter the replacement name or password and tap Save. You can follow the steps to change your Starlink WiFi password, then reconnect your devices with the new credentials.
For an enterprise dashboard-managed router, sign into your Starlink account dashboard and click the service line, scroll down to devices, click your router, choose its router configuration and click configure. Change the network name or SSID and password, then click Save. Changes synchronize when the router is online; allow 2 to 5 minutes. Aviation configurations are managed through this portal rather than the app.
Factory reset through the Starlink app
Connect your device to your Starlink WiFi network, then open the Starlink app. Select Settings > Router > Factory Reset and drag the slider to reset the router. This method requires a connected router associated with your account.
An offline router or one that is not associated with your account displays manual reset instructions instead. Follow the physical procedure for your model below. If you need the app, open Starlink’s official app download instructions, select Download for iOS or Download for Android, then install Starlink from the linked store.
Reset a Router 3
On Router 3, also called the Gen 3 router, uncover the LAN ports on the rear. Use a paper clip to briefly press the recessed reset button. Allow the router to reboot, then join the STARLINK WiFi network from your device.
This procedure also applies to the Router 3 supplied with Standard 4 X. Once you reconnect, complete the WiFi setup below to give the network your preferred name and password.
Reset a Router Mini or Starlink Mini
The separate Router Mini and the router built into a Starlink Mini dish use different reset procedures. For the separate Router Mini, including the unit supplied with Standard 4 or Mini X, use a paper clip to press and release the rear reset button. Its light flashes rapidly as the reset begins. Allow the router to reboot.
For a Mini X setup, get the dish online first. Wait 1 to 2 minutes for New Mesh Node(s) in the app, then tap Pair or Pair All to connect the separate Router Mini.
To reset the WiFi router integrated into the Starlink Mini dish, find the reset symbol on the back of the dish. Press firmly until you hear or feel a click, then hold it for 3 seconds. The indicator flashes rapidly and goes out during the reboot. Repeat setup afterward; this procedure also applies to the Mini dish supplied in Mini X.
Reset a Gen 2 router
For a Gen 2 router, including one installed with a Standard Actuated system, unplug and reconnect its power six consecutive times, approximately 2 to 3 seconds apart. Allow several minutes for the router to restart after completing the sequence. Then open your device’s WiFi settings and join STARLINK. The sequence performs a factory reset, so configure your WiFi credentials again afterward.
Reset an original Gen 1 router
On the original Gen 1 router used with Standard Circular, find the reset button on the underside. Gently press it with a paper clip. After the light turns blue, wait until it becomes steady white, then join STARLINK from your device’s WiFi settings.
Reset a Gen 2 mesh node
Reset connected mesh nodes after factory-resetting the main router. For a Gen 2 router operating as a mesh node, disconnect and restore the node’s power six consecutive times. Next, reconnect your device to the primary router’s WiFi network and open the Starlink app. Wait for PAIR MESH NODE to appear so you can reconnect the node.
These power-cycle steps apply to Gen 2 mesh nodes. If your mesh unit is a separate Router Mini in a Mini X kit, use its rear reset button and the Mini X pairing procedure above.
Set up WiFi after the reset
For Router 3, join STARLINK in your device’s WiFi settings, then open the Starlink app. Go to Settings > Router, enter your preferred network name and password, then tap Save. Reconnect your devices using those credentials.
For Standard 4 with Router Mini, join STARLINK from your device’s WiFi settings. If an automatic browser setup window opens, enter a new network name and password there. That browser prompt sets a new WiFi name and password; it is not a factory-reset command.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you reset a Starlink router in bypass mode?
Use the physical factory-reset procedure for your router model to recover from bypass mode. The app’s factory-reset option is unavailable while bypass mode is enabled. A physical factory reset is also required to reverse API-enabled bypass on enterprise equipment.
Why do older Starlink mesh instructions mention three power cycles?
An older Starlink mesh installation document says to power cycle a mesh node at least three times. Starlink’s current instructions specify six consecutive power cycles for Gen 2 mesh nodes, so use that sequence.
What browser address should you enter for Standard 4 WiFi setup?
Starlink’s Standard 4 setup guide does not list a browser address to enter manually for the automatic WiFi setup on Standard 4 with Router Mini. Join STARLINK and use the browser setup window if it opens.
Can a read-only enterprise account send router commands?
No, read-only roles cannot make changes. The Admin role has full access, and the Technical and Technical Configuration roles with edit access can reboot and configure Starlink terminals and routers and edit device commands.
