To change your Starlink Wi-Fi password, open the Starlink app and go to Settings > Router Configuration, select your network, enter a new password and tap Save. To change your account password, use Starlink’s password recovery page and choose email or phone recovery. These passwords serve separate purposes, so changing one does not change the other.

The short version

  • Wi-Fi password: Connect to your Starlink Wi-Fi and edit your network under Router Configuration in the app.
  • Reconnect devices: Saving the new Wi-Fi password disconnects devices, which need the replacement password to reconnect.
  • Account password: Request a password reset through your registered email address or mobile number.
  • Forgotten Wi-Fi password: A factory reset lets you create replacement credentials but erases your network credentials and other settings.
  • Another router: Change the password on the router that provides your Wi-Fi.

Connect your phone to your Starlink Wi-Fi, then open the Starlink app and sign in. If you need the app, open the official Starlink download page and select Download for iOS or Download for Android.

Open Settings > Router Configuration and select the network you want to change. Enter your new Wi-Fi password, which must contain 8 to 32 characters, then tap Save. This is the routine password-change path for Starlink-provided Wi-Fi, including Router 3, Router Mini and Starlink Mini; aviation configurations use the Enterprise dashboard.

Keep the new password somewhere you can retrieve it before saving. Starlink says its app does not display the saved Wi-Fi password again. If you cannot connect because you have forgotten the existing password, use the physical factory-reset procedure for your router below.

Saving the change disconnects devices from the network. Open each device’s Wi-Fi settings, select your Starlink network and reconnect using the new password. Repeat this for every device that needs access.

Open the Starlink password recovery page to change your account login password. Starlink directs you to this page even when you know your current password. Choose the recovery method tied to an email address or mobile number you can access.

Select By Email, enter your registered account email and click Request Password Reset. Complete identity verification when prompted, then open the email titled Reset Your Starlink Password. Follow its link to choose your new account password.

For SMS recovery, select By Phone and enter your registered mobile number. Complete any number-confirmation step presented, click Request Password Reset and complete the verification prompts. Follow the reset instructions sent by SMS to finish changing the password.

Recover access when verification blocks you

When email verification prevents you from completing the reset, click Need help? at the two-step verification prompt. This lets you receive the verification passcode by SMS at your registered mobile number. Enter the code and continue the password-reset process.

If you cannot access either your registered email or phone, open Starlink’s locked-out account recovery. Enter your name, phone number and an accessible email address different from your account email, then click Next. Open the email titled Verify your email address and click Create Ticket.

Explain that you cannot access the account email or phone, then complete the assistant’s information-gathering flow for a support agent. This route collects the information needed for assisted account recovery rather than giving you an immediate password editor.

Create a separate guest password

For a router with Add Network and Guest Network controls, you can create a separate network and password for guests. Open the Starlink app and go to Settings > Add Network. Enter a unique network name, also called an SSID, and a password.

Turn on Guest Network, then tap Save. Starlink’s guest-network instructions do not name compatible router models, so check that your router offers those controls in the app.

Reset forgotten wireless credentials through the app

A factory reset erases your network credentials and other settings so you can configure a new password. Use it when you cannot complete a routine password edit and need to start over. Mesh nodes also need resetting afterward.

To reset through the Starlink app, connect to Starlink Wi-Fi and open Settings > Router > Factory Reset. Drag the slider, then configure a new password after the reset. This requires an associated, internet-connected router outside bypass mode.

If the router is not associated with your account or connected to the internet, the app displays manual reset instructions. The app reset is not available in bypass mode. If you cannot join the network at all, use the physical procedure for your router below. A factory reset also restores Starlink routing from bypass mode.

Router 3 has a reset button beneath the rear LAN-port cap. Briefly press it with a paper clip, then wait for the router to reboot. Join STARLINK and configure replacement Wi-Fi credentials in the app.

Router Mini has a rear reset button that you press and release with a paper clip. Wait for the reboot. If Router Mini is your main router, configure your Wi-Fi credentials through the Starlink app. If it serves as a mesh node, wait for the pairing notification in the app and pair it with your main Starlink network again. Router Mini is a separate product from Starlink Mini, so use the procedure that matches your equipment.

Starlink Mini has an integrated router and a reset symbol on its back. Press firmly until the button clicks and hold it for three seconds; the LED flashes rapidly and turns off. After reboot, join STARLINK and configure your password in the app.

For a Gen 2 router, unplug and reconnect power six times at roughly 2 to 3-second intervals. After reboot, join STARLINK and open the app. Go to Settings > Router, enter your new network name and password, then tap Save.

On an original Gen 1 router, gently press the bottom reset button with a paper clip. Wait for a solid white light, then join STARLINK. Open Settings > Router in the app, enter replacement credentials and tap Save.

Set an initial password through the browser prompt

During initial setup, Standard 4 with Router Mini, Standard 4 X with Router 3 and Enterprise kits using a Starlink router support an automatic browser prompt. Join STARLINK from your device’s Wi-Fi settings, then use that prompt to enter a network name and password.

The browser prompt is for initial network configuration. To edit an already configured Starlink network, use the app or, if your account supports it, the Enterprise dashboard.

Change wireless credentials in the Enterprise dashboard

If you have Enterprise dashboard access and configuration permissions, sign in and select the service line. Scroll to devices, select the router and click configure. Aviation configurations must be managed through this dashboard.

Change the network name and password. If wifi security is set to open, select an appropriate WPA2/WPA3 option, then click Save. Keep the router powered and connected and allow 2 to 5 minutes for synchronization. Repeat the procedure for any additional routers.

If your shared account role prevents editing, ask an authorized administrator to enable configuration access. The administrator opens the account’s Settings, selects your user menu and chooses Edit > Roles. They assign the appropriate editing role and click Save.

The Admin, Technical and Technical Configuration roles include router-configuration capabilities; read-only roles cannot make changes. Once you have the required permission, follow the dashboard procedure to update the router.

Change the password on another router

If another router provides your Starlink connection’s Wi-Fi, change its network password through that router’s controls. Starlink bypass mode disables Starlink Wi-Fi. Router brands use their own apps and menu paths.

For a supported TP-Link router, connect to its Wi-Fi and open https://tplinkwifi.net/ in a browser. Sign in with the router’s admin password, then open Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings. Change Password and click Save.

TP-Link’s Wi-Fi 8 interface instead uses Wi-Fi > Main Network. Open that path, change Password and click Save. Use the path that matches your router’s interface.

If you prefer the app, check your router’s compatibility on the official Tether product page and use its download QR code to get Tether. For a Tether-compatible TP-Link router running its latest firmware, connect to its Wi-Fi and open Tether. Select the router under Devices, sign in and tap More > Wi-Fi Settings. Select the network, change its password and tap Save.

You can skip the local Wi-Fi connection when the router is already bound to your TP-Link ID for remote access. For another router brand, use that manufacturer’s app or browser controls to change the network password.
