To remove an individual follower on Facebook, open their profile, select Options or More, then choose Block and confirm. To remove non-friend followers together from a profile with pro mode enabled, select Turn off pro mode through your profile options and complete the confirmation.
The right control depends on whether the person follows your personal profile, Marketplace activity, or a Page you manage. Blocking also ends an existing friendship, so use the following settings instead when your goal is to limit non-friend following generally.
The short version
- One profile follower: Block the person from their profile or your blocking settings.
- Non-friend followers: Turning off pro mode removes them and changes following eligibility to friends.
- Friends who follow: Restrict following to friends before unfriending someone, or block them directly.
- Marketplace and Pages: Use their separate following or blocking controls.

Block an individual profile follower
Blocking is the direct choice when you want to remove a particular person from your profile followers. On a computer, open their profile, click Options or More, choose Block, then click Confirm.
On Android, iPhone, iPad, a mobile browser, or Facebook Lite, open the person's profile and tap the three-dot Options menu or More. Tap Block, then tap Block again to finish. These profile blocking controls apply to both regular profiles and profiles with pro mode.
Facebook does not document a separate removal button for individual personal-profile followers. The direct Block command in a personal Feed post menu has been removed; open the person's profile or use blocking settings instead.
Find someone through blocking settings
Use settings when you would rather search for the person's name than open their profile first. On the desktop website, click your profile picture, then open Settings & privacy > Settings. Under Audience and visibility, click Blocking.
In Block profiles and Pages, click Edit, then Add to blocked list. Enter the follower's name and click Block beside the correct result. Click Confirm to complete the block.
In the Android, iPhone, or iPad app, tap Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings. Under Audience and visibility, tap Blocking > Add to blocked list. Enter the person's name, tap Block beside the correct result, then tap Block again.
The mobile browser uses the same settings path, with Menu at the top right. Facebook Lite also uses that path; select the correct search result, tap Block, then tap Close. In the Android and iPhone apps, the position of Menu can vary.
Limit following to friends
On Android, iPhone, a mobile browser, or Facebook Lite, you can limit non-friend following where the selector is available. Tap Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings > Followers and public content. Then find Who can follow me and select Friends. Existing friends can still follow you.
Meta is gradually removing the Public following option from regular profiles, so the selector depends on your profile's rollout state. If you have pro mode enabled and want to remove non-friend followers together, turn off pro mode using the steps below.
If the follower is also your friend, first ensure that following is restricted to friends, either through the follower setting or by turning off pro mode. On a computer or Android, open their profile, select Friends > Unfriend, then select Confirm. On iPhone, open their profile, tap Friends > Unfriend, then tap OK.
This combined approach follows from Meta's friends-only eligibility rule: after unfriending, the person no longer qualifies to follow as a friend. Unfriending alone is insufficient when public following is allowed. Friends follow automatically, so keeping the friendship also keeps their eligibility to follow.
Turn off pro mode to remove nonfriend followers
Meta says turning off pro mode changes your following setting to Friends and removes followers who are not friends. It also removes professional tools and insights and affects monetization and content protection. Choose this option if you are ready to give up those features.
On a computer, click your profile photo, then your name to open your profile. Click Options below the cover photo, select Turn off pro mode, then click Continue and Turn off.
On iPhone or iPad, tap Menu, then your name. Tap Options above your photo, select Turn off pro mode, then tap Continue and Turn off. In a mobile browser, open Menu, tap your name, then select Options > Turn off pro mode. Tap Continue, then Turn off.
For Android and Facebook Lite, open Menu, then tap Options above your photo. Choose Turn off pro mode, tap Continue, then tap Turn off. Meta says previous profile followers can be regained by turning pro mode on again, so the removal is not necessarily permanent.
Block a follower through Messenger
You can also block a follower through a Messenger conversation connected to their Facebook profile. In the Messenger Android, iPhone, or iPad app, open Chats, then open your conversation with the person. Tap their name at the top, scroll down, tap Block, then tap Block [Name]. Meta says this also blocks that profile on Facebook.
In the Messenger browser interface, open the conversation and click Information. Under Privacy & support, click Block, select Block on Facebook, then click Block. Selecting Block messages and calls instead does not block the Facebook profile.
If you cannot access the Messenger browser interface, use Facebook's profile or blocking settings. The standalone Messenger app for Windows and Mac has been retired, so use Facebook's website or Messenger on mobile instead.
Remove Marketplace followers
Marketplace following is separate from following your profile or Feed activity. To remove all Marketplace followers, use the Facebook Android or iPhone app with Marketplace access. Meta says you cannot currently change this setting from a computer.
Tap Menu > Marketplace, using See more if necessary to find it, then tap Profile. Under Selling, tap Marketplace followers, then tap Information in the top right. Depending on the controls displayed, you may see Manage followers or Turn off following; choose Turn off following where displayed.
Turning Marketplace following off removes your existing Marketplace followers. Meta says those followers remain lost even if you enable following again. Use an individual block instead when you only want to remove one person.
On Android, tap Menu > Marketplace > Marketplace profile > Inbox, then open the person's conversation. Tap their profile photo, select Options > Block, then tap Block again. This also blocks their Facebook profile.
On iPhone, follow Menu > Marketplace > Marketplace profile > Inbox and open the conversation. Tap their profile photo, select View Marketplace profile > Options > Block, then tap Block to confirm. The block also applies to their Facebook profile.
Remove followers from a Facebook Page
These Page controls require Facebook access to the Page, and blocking an existing Page follower removes that follower. On a computer, click your profile photo, choose See all profiles, and select the Page. Open the Page and click Followers, then click Options beside the follower and choose Block.
You can also open blocking management from the Page's followers list on a computer. Beside the followers search bar, click Options > Manage Blocking.
To search by name through settings, click the Page's profile photo and open Settings & privacy > Settings. Under Audience and visibility, click Blocking. In Block profiles and Pages, click Edit > Add to blocked list, enter the profile or Page name, click Block beside the correct result, then click Confirm.
In the Android, iPhone, iPad, or mobile-browser interface, switch into the Page through Menu > Options, then select the Page. While using it, open Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings. Under Audience and visibility, tap Blocking > Add to blocked list, enter the name, tap Block beside the correct result, then tap Block again.
The mobile browser also supports blocking from the Page's followers list. Tap Menu or your profile picture, open Options, and select the Page. Tap Menu or your profile photo, choose View your profile > Followers, select the follower, then tap Options > Block.
To block someone from a comment, open the Page post containing their comment while using the Page. On a computer, hover over the commenter's photo, click Options, then select Block. In a mobile browser, tap the commenter's photo, then select Options > Block. Blocking removes the commenter as a follower if they follow your Page.
On Android, touch and hold the comment, then tap Delete comment and block; this also deletes the comment. Alternatively, tap the commenter's photo, then See Options > Block. On iPhone or iPad, touch and hold the comment and tap Block User, or tap the person's photo and choose Options > Block.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Facebook notify someone when you block them?
Facebook does not notify the profile you block. The block also ends your friendship if you were friends.
Will blocking someone protect all your additional Facebook profiles?
A block applies to the selected Facebook profile. Manage blocking separately for your additional profiles.
Can a blocked follower still interact with you anywhere on Facebook?
A block is not a guarantee against interaction through shared groups or apps. The person may also interact with you through another profile.
Should you block and immediately unblock a follower?
Facebook does not document a guarantee that blocking and then unblocking permanently removes the person's follow. Unblocking restores access to your public posts, and you must wait a few days before blocking that profile again.
Does hiding your following list remove followers?
Hiding your following list does not remove followers. Changing post audiences or comment controls also leaves your followers in place.
Can someone follow you after you delete their friend request?
Deleting or ignoring a friend request can create a public follower when public following is permitted. Review who can follow you if you want to limit non-friend following.
