Fix Soundpad not working on Discord by selecting the same microphone in both apps, enabling microphone playback in Soundpad, and turning off Discord’s sound filtering. Then check voice activation or Push to Talk so Discord transmits the clip.
These steps cover Soundpad 4.x on Windows, with separate Windows 11 and Windows 10 paths where needed. Discord’s desktop controls vary by client rollout, so use Soundpad’s device setup test when the bypass setting is missing or you use Discord in a browser.
The short version
- Match the microphone: Enable Soundpad on the microphone selected as Discord’s input device.
- Send clips to the microphone: Choose Soundpad’s default playback mode instead of speakers only.
- Remove filtering: Use Discord’s Custom input profile and disable the sound processing controls described below.
- Check transmission: Hold your assigned Push to Talk key throughout playback or configure Soundpad’s Auto Keys.
- Try another setup mode: Use Soundpad’s setup test when no injected audio reaches Discord or the bypass toggle is missing.

| Send Soundpad diagnostics | Configuration and compatibility checks do not resolve playback |
Match the microphone and playback mode
In Soundpad, open File > Preferences > Devices, find the microphone you intend to use, and check Use. Apply the change, then open Discord’s User Settings > Voice & Video. Under Input Device, select that same microphone.
Right-click Soundpad’s first status-bar icon and select Set play mode to default (speakers and microphone). For microphone-only playback, select Play on microphone in the main window.
Check the device status in Soundpad’s File > Preferences > Devices. Look for Good; otherwise, open the adjacent question-mark explanation.
Turn off Discord sound filtering
On Discord desktop, open User Settings > Voice & Video and set Input Profile to Custom. Disable Noise Suppression and Echo Cancellation. Open Show Advanced Voice Settings, then disable Automatic Gain Control and Bypass System Audio Input Processing.
These controls depend on your Discord client’s rollout. When the bypass setting is missing, including in browser Discord, use the Soundpad device setup-mode steps below.
Check the result in Discord desktop by opening User Settings > Voice & Video > Voice > Mic Test. Select Let's Check and play a Soundpad clip. Repeat this input check after changing settings.
Check Voice Activity and Push to Talk
On Discord desktop, open User Settings > Voice & Video and, under Input Mode, choose Voice Activity or Push to Talk. With Push to Talk, hold your assigned key for the entire clip.
Soundpad can hold that key automatically for Discord desktop. Open File > Preferences > Hotkeys > Auto Keys > Add, configure Discord’s Push to Talk key, enable Enabled, and choose Press and hold. Configure the application conditions, and make sure playback includes the microphone.
To trigger this behavior when starting a clip from Soundpad’s interface, uncheck Press only if sound is played by hotkey. If automatic Push to Talk still fails, right-click the Auto Keys status-bar icon and select Troubleshooting, then resolve the reported condition. Double-click that icon to toggle Auto Keys if needed, and verify that the relevant entry is enabled.
Repair hotkeys when direct playback works
If clicking a sound works but its shortcut does not, open Soundpad’s Window > Hotkeys > Hotkey overview to review the assigned hotkeys. In the main window, right-click the sound, select Set hotkey, enter a different combination, and press Enter.
Check File > Preferences > Hotkeys > Special Hotkeys for assignments that take priority. Configure Enable Hotkeys or Toggle Hotkeys if needed. When Soundpad consumes a key Discord also needs, open File > Preferences > Hotkeys > Advanced options and enable Pass hotkeys, or assign separate playback and Push to Talk keys.
Fix quiet clips and missing beginnings
For clips that are audible locally but too quiet or uneven for other people, open Soundpad’s File > Preferences > Audio > Volume normalization. Use the integrated voice measurement and dynamic volume adjustment. Soundpad’s main-window volume slider changes local speaker playback, not the volume injected into the microphone.
When Discord uses Voice Activity and cuts off the beginning of a clip, open Soundpad’s File > Preferences > Audio and enable Play voice activation sound. If room noise interferes after you disable Discord’s filters, enable Block voice in the same Soundpad audio preferences. That optional setting suppresses your live microphone during clip playback.
Try another Soundpad device setup mode
Use this fix when absolutely no injected audio reaches Discord, or when Discord lacks the bypass setting described above. Close applications recording from your microphone. In Soundpad, open File > Preferences > Devices, right-click the microphone, and select Set setup mode.
Select Start setup test, try another mode, and select Apply. Restart Discord and check playback again, continuing through the available modes. If your device offers no alternative setup modes or none of them works, send Soundpad’s diagnostic report as described below. The modes offered depend on your microphone and its driver.
Restarting Windows audio interrupts active audio sessions. For an additional audio restart through Soundpad, open File > Preferences > Devices, right-click the device area, and select Restart Win-Audio.
Check microphone access when your voice also fails
If people cannot hear your normal speech either, check Discord’s slashed microphone and headset controls and turn off mute or deafen. For a server mute or deafen, ask a server administrator to remove it and check your Connect and Speak permissions. With an external microphone or headset, reconnect it, try another USB or audio port, and release any hardware microphone mute.
On Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Enable Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Make sure Microphone access for this device is on, then enable Allow apps to access your microphone and Allow desktop apps to access your microphone.
On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Sound > Input and select the intended microphone. Open its properties and adjust Input volume. On Windows 10, open Settings > System > Sound > Input and use Choose your input device to select the microphone.
When microphone capture also fails outside Discord, run Windows input troubleshooting. On Windows 11, open Settings > System > Sound > Advanced > Troubleshoot common sound problems > Input devices.
Allow the microphone in browser Discord
In Chrome on Windows, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Microphone. Allow discord.com and select the microphone configured in Soundpad. At a new microphone permission prompt, select Allow while visiting the site. If an organization’s policy locks the setting, contact your administrator.
In Firefox on Windows, open discord.com, press Ctrl + I, and open Permissions. Under Use the microphone, uncheck Use Default and select Allow. Alternatively, clear the microphone block using the address-bar permissions icon, revisit Discord, and select Allow; check Remember this decision to retain a prompted choice.
Update the apps and resolve persistent failures
Update standalone Soundpad through Help > Check for updates, or update the Steam edition through Steam. Leppsoft lists fixes for affected Windows 11 Voice Clarity configurations, Blue Yeti microphones, and G Pro X headset effects in Soundpad’s changelog. The standalone installer can also update an existing installation while preserving settings.
In Discord desktop, press Ctrl + R to refresh the app. If necessary, fully quit Discord and reopen it, then restart Windows if the problem persists. When both speech and clips have connection-related interruptions, open Discord’s User Settings > Voice & Video and, on the Voice tab, disable the Quality of Service High Packet Priority setting.
Resetting Discord’s voice configuration resets your voice and video settings. To try that fallback, open User Settings > Voice & Video > Debugging and select Reset Voice and Video Settings. Afterwards, reapply the matching microphone and Soundpad filtering settings described above.
If configuration and compatibility checks still leave Soundpad unable to transmit clips, open Soundpad’s Help > Troubleshooting. Save the diagnostic report and attach it through Report a bug.
Frequently Asked Questions
