To fix Discord password reset not working, enter your registered email on Discord’s login screen, select Forgot your password?, and complete the emailed instructions and any required authentication. If the app’s recovery screen is inaccessible, request the reset through Discord’s website. An inaccessible authenticator or an unauthorized email change requires a separate recovery step.

Sign in only through Discord’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you. Keep any existing signed-in session available because it can help you identify your account email or access recovery options.

The short version

  • Start with your email: Password recovery requires access to the mailbox registered to your Discord account.
  • Try browser recovery: Request a reset on Discord’s website when the app’s recovery screen is inaccessible.
  • Complete MFA: Use your authenticator, an unused backup code, or another previously configured authentication method when prompted.
  • Check unauthorized changes: Use the separate recovery route in your original email-change notification before its link expires.

Confirm the email and request a reset

Open Discord’s login screen in the desktop, iOS, or Android app, or open the Discord login page in a desktop or mobile browser. Enter your account’s email address, then select Forgot your password?. Completing the reset replaces your previous password, so follow the email instructions to choose its replacement and complete MFA if prompted.

If you see Email does not exist, check which address belongs to the account. In an existing desktop or browser session, open User Settings, select My Account, and inspect the email address. Otherwise, search your email inboxes for Discord messages or request a reset for a likely address.

A linked phone number can help identify the account email when you still have usable login credentials. Sign in with that number instead of the email address, then open User Settings and select My Account to inspect the address. This is phone-number login, not an SMS password reset.

If you have lost access to the registered mailbox, contact your email provider about recovering it before retrying Discord recovery. Discord says support cannot change the account email for you. When the app’s recovery screen itself is inaccessible, use the browser login page to request the reset.

Correct a rejected replacement password

Use a replacement password with at least eight characters and meet any additional regional requirements displayed during recovery. Follow the remaining prompts after entering an acceptable password. Complete any subsequent MFA prompt with an available authentication method.

If the password stage still fails, check whether you started an ordinary reset or an email-change reversal. Reversing an unauthorized email change also requires a valid recovery link and an original email address that is not attached to another Discord account. Follow the email-change recovery steps below if that is the process you started.

Complete the MFA challenge

When your enrolled authenticator is accessible, open its Discord entry and enter the current six-digit code at Discord’s authentication prompt. Select Confirm to continue. If that authenticator is inaccessible, use another authentication method you previously configured.

Look for discord_backup_codes.txt or a saved screenshot of your backup codes. At the MFA prompt, select Verify with something else > Use a backup code, enter an unused eight-digit code, then select Confirm. A missing backup-code option can indicate that the codes have been exhausted.

SMS is another route only when you enabled SMS MFA before losing access. Select Verify with something else > Use a code sent to your phone, enter the received code, and select Confirm. Merely linking a phone number to Discord does not meet this requirement.

An existing usable desktop or browser session can help you retrieve backup codes when you know the password. Open User Settings, select My Account, then select View Backup Codes and enter your password. You can also use previously saved backup codes; a signed-in session alone does not bypass authentication.

Removing the authenticator app removes that enrolled MFA method from your account. To remove an inaccessible authenticator using a backup code, select Remove Authenticator App, then Verify with something else, enter the code, and select Confirm. Select Okay if the removal confirmation appears after recovered login.

Restore missing or rejected authenticator codes

For a missing Discord entry in Google Authenticator, sign in to the Google Account previously used to synchronize your codes. On an existing installation, check the profile icon and switch accounts if needed, then use the restored Discord code before it expires. This requires previously synchronized codes; synchronization is supported from Android app version 6.0 and iOS app version 4.0.

If the old device still has the Discord entry, open Google Authenticator there and select Menu > Transfer codes > Export codes. Unlock the device, select the Discord entry, and tap Next. On the new device, select Menu > Transfer codes > Import codes, then scan the old device’s QR code.

For rejected Google Authenticator codes, choose the entry for the correct Discord account and enter its code before it expires. Check that the device’s time and local time zone are correct. Google Authenticator uses the operating system clock; its in-app time-correction setting was removed in version 7.0.

On Android devices using Google’s Clock interface, open Clock > More > Settings > Change date and time. Turn on Automatic date and time, then under Time zone, turn on Automatic time zone. Manufacturer labels can differ, so consult your device maker’s help if those controls differ.

On an iPhone running iOS 27, open Settings > General > Date & Time. To correct an inaccurate clock manually, turn off Set Time Automatically and set the correct date and time.

If you use Authy and another installation still works, open Settings > Devices and enable Allow multi-device before registering a replacement device. Have your backups password available. For a restored Discord token showing a lock, select that token and enter the existing backups password; Twilio cannot recover a forgotten backups password.

Without an accessible Authy installation and with multi-device disabled, open Account Recovery through Twilio’s official Authy help. Recovery cannot restore tokens that were not backed up or decrypt them without the backups password. If it cannot restore your Discord entry, use another previously configured Discord authentication method.

Use an existing passkey or signed-in phone

At login, select Or, sign in with Passkey instead, choose your previously registered Discord passkey, and complete the operating system’s identity check. You need a compatible device or password manager holding that passkey. If passwordless login fails, try password login followed by the passkey at the MFA challenge.

A previously registered physical security key can also complete MFA. Enter your login credentials, select Authenticate with security key, and follow the key’s device-specific prompt. Discord says physical security keys generally cannot provide one-step passwordless login.

If the passkey still malfunctions, repair it only when another authentication method works. Removing it from your password manager deletes that saved passkey, so retain your backup codes before proceeding. Remove the saved passkey using your password manager’s controls, whose labels vary, then sign in using another method.

Register its replacement on mobile through Account > Security Keys > Add. On desktop, open User Settings, select My Account, then select Register a Security Key. Removing the old Discord key entry ends that key’s registration with the account. After registering the replacement, remove the old entry.

A phone already signed in to Discord can authorize a desktop or browser login without recovering the password itself. Display the login QR code on your own desktop app or browser, then open your avatar and the cogwheel in the mobile app. Under Account Settings, select Scan QR Code, scan your desktop code, and tap Log in.

You can also scan your own desktop login code with a QR-capable phone camera. Open Discord when directed and tap Log in there to approve the session. Refresh an expired desktop QR code before scanning again.

Reverse an unauthorized email change

If someone changed your Discord email, open the email-change notification in your original mailbox within 48 hours, the recovery window checked October 26, 2026. Select Start Account Recovery and verify that the destination begins with https://discord.com/wasntme/. That expiration applies to email-change reversal, not ordinary password-reset emails.

Reversing the change restores the original email, signs out devices, and removes enrolled phone numbers and MFA methods. Select Start revert process, supply a new password, and complete the displayed instructions. Re-enroll your phone number and MFA methods after recovery.

If reversal fails, check whether the link expired or an earlier recovery invalidated it, whether your original email is attached to another Discord account, and whether the replacement password meets the requirements. Discord cannot replace an expired email-change recovery link. For unresolved compromise, submit the details and any unauthorized transactions through Discord’s hacked account recovery form; recovery assistance is not guaranteed.

Check verification and service interruptions

Email verification is separate from password recovery. If you can access settings and an unverified account is the actual blocker, open User Settings on desktop or browser, select My Account, then select Resend Verification Email. Follow the verification email you receive.

On mobile, Discord’s verification instructions give the path User Settings > Account > Verify. If your current mobile layout differs, use the desktop or browser verification route. Both send a verification email rather than a password reset.

For verification-email delivery problems, allowlist [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] in your email service. Retry requesting the verification email from another device, or try cellular data on mobile. Continue selecting Forgot your password? when you need a password reset.

When recovery screens continue failing, check Discord Status for an applicable service incident. Inspect API and Client, including the entry for your desktop, iOS, Android, or web client, and review incident notices. If a relevant outage is reported, retry after it is resolved.

Contact Discord when recovery still fails

Use the Discord Help Center for recovery troubleshooting that the account steps cannot resolve. Its support account is separate from your Discord app account. Discord cannot reset your password for you or bypass missing MFA credentials.

To create a support account, select Sign in > Sign Up, enter your name and email, then select Sign up. In the activation email, select Activate account and set a Help Center password. Use that separate account to submit your request.

Select Submit a request, then under What can we help you with?, choose Help & Support. Complete Subject and Description with the recovery step that fails and the error you receive, then select Submit. Check Requests or open My Activities for updates, or reply to the original ticket email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you change your Discord password without using a reset email?

Yes, when you are signed in and know your current password; the change replaces that password. On desktop or browser, open User Settings, select My Account, then select Change Password and enter the current and new passwords. On mobile, open your avatar, the cogwheel, Account, and Password, enter both passwords, then tap Change Password. Complete MFA if prompted.

How do you recover access to the Discord Help Center?

Resetting the support password replaces your Help Center password without changing your Discord app password. Select Forgot password? on the Help Center sign-in page and follow the email instructions. For missing support emails, check spam or junk and add [email protected] to your contacts.

How do you restore a Discord account you disabled yourself?

Log in with the account’s email and password, then select Restore Account at the disabled-account prompt. This applies to voluntarily disabled accounts that have not been deleted. It does not restore an account suspended by Discord.

Can you recover an account pending deletion?

You can cancel voluntary deletion before the 15-day deletion period ends, the window checked October 26, 2026. Sign in through desktop, browser, or mobile and select Restore Account, resetting a forgotten password first if necessary. If support initiated deletion at your request, follow up with support. Completed deletion cannot be reversed through this flow.

Will resetting your password remove a Discord suspension?

A password reset does not remove Discord enforcement. Sign in, open User Settings, select My Account, then open Standing to inspect the specific violation and suspension duration. Use the review link in the violation notice to request a review.

When should you wait before retrying an email change?

For Invalid Email when adding an address, or an email-change or verification rate-limit error, Discord instructs you to wait 24 hours before retrying, checked October 26, 2026. Contact support if the error persists. That instruction applies to those email errors rather than every failed password-reset request.

How do you remove unwanted app access after recovering a hacked account?

Deauthorizing an application removes its authorized access to your Discord account. On desktop or browser, open User Settings > Authorized Apps and select Deauthorize for unwanted applications. On mobile, open your avatar, the cogwheel, and Authorized Apps, then tap the unwanted application’s x button.
