Outlook does not delete every calendar the same way. A shared calendar, extra calendar, or account calendar can be removed from your view, but the primary default calendar for an account is not removable through the regular Outlook controls.

Start with the calendar list, then use the path that matches your version of Outlook. If the delete option is blocked, you can clear the primary calendar's items, remove the account from Outlook, or stop sharing access.

Check What Outlook Lets You Remove

Your main Outlook calendar is the default calendar folder for the account. In classic Outlook for Windows, Delete Calendar is grayed out for that primary calendar.

Extra calendars work differently. Calendars you created, shared calendars, team calendars, group calendars, and SharePoint calendars can be removed from the Outlook calendar list when Outlook shows the removal option.

To hide a calendar in new Outlook for Windows, open Calendar and clear the check mark next to the calendar name in the side pane. That takes it off your screen without deleting it from the account.

Remove a Calendar in New Outlook for Windows

This fixes shared, team, SharePoint, and other non-default calendars showing in new Outlook for Windows.

Open Calendar.

In the side pane, select the calendar name you want to remove.

Open More options for that calendar.

Choose Remove.

For an additional calendar you created yourself, right-click the calendar name in the Navigation pane.

Choose Remove.

Delete a Calendar in Classic Outlook for Windows

The most common reason Outlook will not delete a calendar is that you selected the primary calendar for the account.

Open Calendar and look in the Folder Pane.

Right-click the calendar you want to remove.

Choose Delete Calendar.

Select Yes to confirm.

For a secondary calendar you created, right-click the calendar name in the Navigation Pane.

Choose Delete calendar name.

For a shared, team, group, or SharePoint calendar, right-click the calendar.

Choose Delete Group or Delete Calendar, then select Yes. This removes your copy from Outlook and leaves the source calendar intact.

Clear Your Primary Calendar Instead

When Outlook will not delete the default calendar folder, delete its events in classic Outlook for Windows.

  1. 1.Open Calendar.
  2. 2.Go to View, then Change View, then List.
  3. 3.Click inside the item list.
  4. 4.Press Ctrl+A to select every calendar item.
  5. 5.Right-click inside the item list and choose Delete.

Remove a Calendar From Outlook.com

In Outlook.com, open Calendar and find the calendar list. Open More options next to the calendar you want to remove, then choose Remove.

Some locations show different calendar options in Outlook.com. Use the visible Remove option when it appears for that calendar.

For Outlook on the web with a work or school account connected to a personal Outlook.com or Google calendar, open Calendar, then Add calendar, then Add personal calendars. Choose Remove to disconnect that personal calendar from the work or school account immediately.

Remove a Shared Calendar on iPhone or Android

The most common cause on mobile is that the calendar is shared with you, so Outlook removes it from the app list instead of deleting a full calendar folder.

Open the Calendar section in Outlook for iOS or Outlook for Android.

Tap the Menu button in the top left-hand corner.

Tap the gear icon next to the calendar.

Choose Remove Shared Calendar.

Delete a Calendar in Outlook for Mac

Use this when you are in Outlook for Mac and the calendar has a delete option. The primary account calendar stays in place when Outlook does not offer deletion.

Open Calendar.

Click the calendar you want to delete.

Hold Control and click Delete.

You can also choose Delete from the dropdown menu for that calendar.

Remove the Account When Its Calendars Must Disappear

If every calendar from an account needs to disappear from Outlook, remove the account from the app. That removes the account's calendars from Outlook along with the mail account entry.

In new Outlook for Windows, go to View, then View settings, or go to File, then Account info. Open Accounts, then Your accounts, then Email accounts, choose Manage next to the account, open Account details, and choose Remove.

For non-Microsoft providers in new Outlook, choose removal from only this device or from all devices when Outlook offers those choices. Remove from all devices removes Microsoft Cloud data across Outlook clients, and cloud-only calendars or items can be permanently lost.

In classic Outlook for Windows, go to File, then Account Settings, then Account Settings, select the account, choose Remove, and confirm with Yes. This removes the account from Outlook and deletes offline cached content on that computer, but it does not deactivate the email account.

In Outlook for Mac, go to Tools, then Accounts, select the account, choose Manage, then Remove Account, and select Continue. In Outlook mobile, go to Settings, then Accounts, select the email account, and choose Remove Account.

If this method fails, remove the specific shared calendar from the calendar list or stop the sharing permission instead.

Stop Sharing or Publishing a Calendar

Open Calendar in new Outlook or Outlook on the web.

Go to Home, then Share Calendar.

Select the calendar when Outlook asks which one you want to manage.

Choose Remove next to the person whose access you want to revoke.

To remove a public published calendar link, open calendar view, go to Settings, then Shared calendars, and choose Unpublish under Publish a calendar.

Skip older Windows Mail and Calendar app instructions; Microsoft ended support for Windows Mail, Calendar, and People on December 31, 2024, and points users to new Outlook or Outlook.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I delete my Outlook calendar?

You selected the primary calendar for the account. Outlook does not remove that default calendar folder through the normal app controls, so delete added calendars or clear the events inside the primary calendar instead.

Does removing a shared calendar delete it for everyone?

No. Removing a shared, team, group, or SharePoint calendar from Outlook deletes your copy from the folder pane. The source calendar remains intact.

Can I delete all events from my main Outlook calendar?

Yes. In classic Outlook for Windows, switch the calendar to List view, click the item list, press Ctrl+A, and delete the selected items. The calendar folder stays in place.

Will removing an Outlook account delete the email account itself?

No. Removing an account from Outlook removes it from the app. In classic Outlook for Windows, it also deletes offline cached content on that computer, but it does not deactivate the email account.

Can I delete an Outlook calendar with Microsoft Graph?

Yes, but only for non-default calendars with the right Calendars.ReadWrite permissions. Microsoft Graph also offers permanentDelete for supported work or school calendar folders.
