To create a split screen on TikTok, open a video that allows Duet, tap Share > Duet, and record your video alongside it. To combine independent saved clips, arrange them in an editor such as CapCut or iMovie, export the result, and upload it to TikTok.

The short version

  • Record a response: Use Share > Duet on a TikTok whose creator permits Duet.
  • Combine saved clips: Use CapCut overlays or iMovie’s Split Screen option, then upload the exported video.
  • Use a preset: Choose a split screen template in CapCut mobile when template access is available.
  • Share a live screen: Eligible TikTok LIVE accounts can arrange video guests using Grid or Panel.

Record beside a TikTok with Duet

In the TikTok mobile app on iPhone or Android, open the video you want to appear beside. Tap Share, then tap Duet. Swipe through the sharing options if you need to find it.

Tap Record to start recording your part, then tap it again to stop. Select Continue ✓ and edit the result. Duet combines the original video and your recording so they play simultaneously in a split screen.

When the edit is ready, tap Next, complete the posting settings, and tap Post. Choose Drafts to save it for later, or tap Your Story to publish it as a Story.

Fix missing Duet access and enable reuse

The source video must allow Duet, so try another eligible video if the option is missing. Your account’s reuse settings control what other people can do with your videos. Changing them does not grant permission to Duet someone else’s restricted video.

To let others Duet your own videos, your account must be public. Open Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Privacy, then turn off Private account. Review the audience change before enabling content reuse.

On an eligible public account, open Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Privacy > Reuse of content > Allow reuse of content from. Choose Everyone or Friends, which means followers you follow back. Age restrictions still apply, and these permissions affect other forms of content reuse too.

For a new video, tap More options on the posting screen and turn on Allow reuse of content. For an existing video, open your video and tap More options … > Privacy settings, then turn on Allow reuse of content. Swipe or scroll to reach a control that is initially hidden.

Combine saved clips in CapCut mobile

For independent saved videos, get the app through the official CapCut mobile download page for iPhone or Android, subject to regional availability. Open CapCut, tap New project, select your first video, and tap Add.

Tap Overlay, select your second video, and add it as an overlay. Pinch to resize the overlay and drag it into position so both clips stay visible, then align their timing so they play together.

Preview the composition to check that both clips stay visible during the intended overlap. Adjust their size, position, or timing before tapping Export. Use CapCut’s TikTok sharing option or upload the saved file to TikTok.

Use a split screen template

In CapCut mobile, tap Template and find a template whose preview shows the split screen you want. Template access depends on availability, and each template determines the clip count, supported media, layout, and cost.

Tap Use template, select your videos or photos, and tap Preview. Select a segment and tap Edit to replace or crop its media. Once the framing and sequence look right, tap Export and share the finished video to TikTok.

You can also start from a TikTok that includes a suitable CapCut template link at the bottom left. With CapCut installed and template access available, tap that link, then tap Use template in CapCut. Replace the media with your clips, preview the composition, and tap Export, then share the result to TikTok.

Make a split screen in iMovie on iPhone or iPad

On iPhone or iPad, install or update the compatible app through the iMovie App Store page. Open a movie project containing your first clip. Move the timeline playhead to the point where the second clip should begin.

Tap Add Media > Video, choose a video category, then select your second clip. Tap More … > Split Screen to add it as an overlay.

Select the overlay clip to adjust its arrangement and framing. On iPhone, use Swap to change between side-by-side and stacked arrangements, Line to adjust the divider, and Zoom Control to adjust framing. On iPad, use Swap, Line, and Zoom Control to adjust the overlay, then export the finished movie for TikTok.

On iPhone, return to the Projects browser and select the finished project. Tap Share > Share Video, then tap Options to choose output settings. Tap Back or Done, then tap Save Video to save the result to your photo library for upload. Alternatively, tap Save to Files, choose a folder, and tap Save.

Arrange clips on a computer

In CapCut desktop on Windows or macOS, create a project, click Import, and add your clips. Drag them onto separate timeline tracks, one above another, with overlapping playback times. Trim their durations as needed.

Select each clip and drag its preview corners to resize it. Move the clips beside each other or into upper and lower panels so both occupy separate visible areas. Click Export, choose the export settings, and click Export again to save the result or use the TikTok sharing option.

For a dividing boundary through overlapping footage, click Import in CapCut desktop, add both videos, and place the second above the first on the timeline. Select the upper clip and temporarily reduce its opacity under Video > Basic to align the images. Open Video > Mask and choose Horizontal, then rotate or adjust the mask to position the boundary. Restore the upper clip’s opacity, click Export, and save or share the result to TikTok.

In iMovie on Mac, open a movie project and drag the second clip above the first timeline clip, releasing it when the green Add (+) icon appears. Click Video Overlay Settings, then choose Split Screen in the left pop-up menu. Use Position to choose left, right, top, or bottom placement, adjust the connected clip’s timeline position and duration, and click Apply.

To save the Mac iMovie result, select the finished movie and choose File > Share > File. Choose Format, Resolution, and Quality, then click Next. Enter a filename under Save As, choose a destination, and click Save.

In Clipchamp in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or its Windows app, click import media and select your clips. Drag them onto separate timeline layers with overlapping playback times, then select the upper clip and resize it using its preview corners. Repeat for the lower clip, move both into adjacent horizontal or vertical positions, use the crop control as needed, and export. Microsoft says the same principles apply to work and school accounts as to personal accounts.

For a preset, open the Clipchamp split screen editor and select Create a video. Choose a split screen template, replace its stock media with your clips, adjust timing and framing, and save in 1080p. Premium assets or features can require an eligible paid plan before export.

Upload the finished video to TikTok

Upload your exported composition to TikTok, or use CapCut’s TikTok sharing option after export. Preview the completed video before publishing to check its framing and overlapping playback.

For browser publishing, sign in to TikTok Studio at tiktok.com/tiktokstudio and open Upload. TikTok also provides an Upload entry point at the top of its homepage. TikTok Studio’s browser tools serve Personal and Business Accounts, subject to regional availability.

Upload your completed file, then adjust Caption, Cover, and Who can watch this video. Review Allow others to and Allow comments before completing publication.

Show multiple people during TikTok LIVE

For a live composition, eligible TikTok accounts with multi-guest access can invite video guests during a broadcast. Tap Guests > Invite and choose a creator or friend. Guests need to connect with video to contribute visible video panels.

Open Guests > Settings and choose Grid or Panel. Turn on Fixed layout to keep the arrangement fixed as participant numbers change. LIVE has separate age, follower, regional, and account-access requirements.

To join someone else’s multi-guest broadcast, tap Multi-guest > Request during their LIVE. After acceptance, configure your video settings and tap Go LIVE. If the host invites you instead, tap Accept, configure your video settings, and tap Go LIVE. Eligibility and camera and microphone permissions apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Stitch the same as a split screen on TikTok?

No, Stitch is a sequential remix workflow, while a split screen shows videos playing simultaneously. Your device’s multitasking split screen also divides the interface rather than composing the video you post.

Can you Duet a video posted by someone aged 13 to 15?

You cannot Duet videos belonging to users aged 13 to 15. Public accounts aged 16 to 17 default to Friends for Duet permissions, and Family Pairing can affect privacy controls. Younger teens can still Duet eligible older users’ videos.

Can you turn your LIVE broadcast into a regular TikTok post?

Yes, you can clip your own LIVE replay within its 30-day availability. Open Profile > Menu ☰ > TikTok Studio > LIVE > LIVE recordings, find the replay, and tap Clip. Edit and preview the excerpt to check the composition, then tap Next and complete the posting flow. Alternatively, tap Save to post later or Download to obtain the replay file.

Can you combine gameplay and a camera feed in TikTok LIVE Studio?

Yes, with desktop LIVE Studio access, under Scenes, select Portrait or Landscape, then Add scene. Choose a template, click Add, then click Add source under that scene to add inputs such as Camera, Game capture, and Video. Move and resize the sources into separate panels, click Edit for the detailed scene editor, and preview before broadcasting. The Dual layout concerns portrait and landscape delivery rather than panel count.

Does co-hosting guarantee a particular split screen layout?

TikTok does not specify a particular panel arrangement for co-hosting. If you are eligible, tap +Hosts during your LIVE, then tap Invite to invite a friend or recommended creator, or Send to invite a random recommended creator. The co-host session starts after the other creator accepts.
