To clear Discord cache, delete the contents of its Cache folder on Windows or Mac, tap Clear cache in Android app settings, or choose Clear Caches inside Discord on iPhone and iPad. For Discord in a desktop browser, clear the browser’s cached files instead.

Start with the method for the app or browser you use. Clearing app storage or reinstalling is a broader reset that can also remove sign-in state and local preferences.

The short version

  • Windows and Mac: Fully close Discord, open its Cache folder, delete the contents, and reopen the app.
  • Android: Open Discord’s storage settings and tap Clear cache.
  • iPhone and iPad: Open Discord’s User Settings > Voice, scroll to Developer Settings, and tap Cache Actions > Clear Caches.
  • Desktop browsers: Clear cached files in the browser you use for Discord, leaving other data categories unselected when you want to retain them.

Clear Discord cache on Windows

Fully close Discord, then open Task Manager and end any remaining Discord processes. These steps apply to the standard Discord desktop installation on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Press Windows + R to open Run. Enter the following path, then press Enter to open Discord’s Cache folder:

%appdata%\discord\Cache

Select the folder’s contents with Ctrl + A, then press Delete. Reopen Discord after the files have been removed.

Clear Discord cache on Mac

Quit Discord completely before opening its cache location. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open Go to Folder.

Enter the following path, then press Return. This opens the Cache folder for the standard Discord desktop installation:

~/Library/Application Support/discord/Cache

Press Command + A to select the contents, then press Command + Delete to move them to Trash. Reopen Discord once the contents have been removed.

Clear Discord cache on Android

On a Google Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Discord > Storage & cache. Tap Clear cache to remove Discord’s cached data.

On a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings > Apps and select Discord. Tap Storage, then tap Clear cache.

Other Android manufacturers may use different labels, and Samsung screens can vary with the software version. Choose Clear cache for a cache cleanup, since Clear storage and Clear data also remove local app data and settings.

Clear Discord cache on iPhone and iPad

Open Discord and tap your avatar at the bottom right. Tap the cogwheel at the upper right to open User Settings, then tap Voice.

Scroll to Developer Settings and tap Cache Actions > Clear Caches. Discord directs you to this route in its iOS instructions, though your app’s layout may differ. If you cannot find the control, deleting and reinstalling the app is a broader reset described below.

Clear Discord web cache in Chrome or Edge

Use browser cache controls when you use Discord’s website. These controls affect the browser’s data, and the separately installed Discord desktop app has its own cache. In Chrome and Edge, the following cleanup affects other websites in the same browser profile too.

In desktop Chrome, open More > Delete browsing data. Set Time range to All time, then check Cached images and files. Uncheck other categories whose data you want to keep, then select Delete data. Reopen Discord’s website after the deletion finishes.

In desktop Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data. Select Choose what to clear beside Clear browsing data now. Set Time range to All time and check Cached images and files. Uncheck other categories you want to retain, then select Clear now.

Clear Discord web cache in Firefox Safari or Opera

In desktop Firefox on Windows, macOS, or Linux, open the Firefox menu, then select History > Clear Recent History…. Set When: to Everything and check Temporary cached files and pages. Uncheck the other categories you want to keep, then click Clear.

For a Discord-only cleanup in Firefox, open Discord’s website and click the site-security icon to the left of the address bar. Click Clear cookies and site data, which removes that site’s temporary cached files and pages along with its cookies and site data.

In Safari on Mac, open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data. Select Discord’s website entry and click Remove. Removing website data may sign you out.

In desktop Opera, open Settings > Privacy & security > Delete browsing data. Choose a time range covering the Discord data you want removed and check Cached images and files. Leave other categories unselected when you want to retain them, then click Clear data. This clears cache across websites in the browser profile.

Reset Discord if clearing cache does not help

If Discord still has the issue you were trying to resolve, you can try a broader local reset. These methods remove more than cache and can also remove sign-in state and local preferences.

On a Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Discord > Storage & cache. Tap Clear storage, then tap OK to remove local app data and settings as well as cache.

On a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Apps > Discord > Storage. Tap Clear data, then tap Delete to reset Discord’s local data.

On iPhone or iPad, touch and hold Discord, then tap Remove App > Delete App > Delete. Reinstall it from Discord’s App Store listing. Deleting the app removes its associated local data; removing only its Home Screen icon leaves the app installed.

For a complete reset of a standard Windows installation, close Discord and terminate its remaining processes in Task Manager. Press Windows + R, enter the following location, and press Enter:

%appdata%

Delete the Discord folder in that location. Open Run again with Windows + R, enter the following location, and press Enter:

%localappdata%

Delete the Discord folder there too, then restart Windows. Reinstall the app from Discord’s official download page. This cleanup removes installation files and local settings as well as cache.

For a complete reset of the standard Mac installation, quit Discord with Command + Q and terminate remaining Discord processes in Activity Monitor. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and open this location:

~/Library/Application Support

Move its Discord folder to Trash. Repeat the folder lookup for the following location and move its Discord folder to Trash only if that folder exists:

/Library/Application Support

Move Discord from Applications to Trash, then empty Trash and restart your Mac. Reinstall Discord using the official download page linked above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does reloading Discord clear its cache?

Do not rely on Ctrl + R or Command + R to delete Discord’s cache. Google distinguishes a hard reload, which bypasses cached content, from emptying the cache. Use the cache-deletion controls when you want to remove stored files.

Can you open Chrome’s cache controls with a keyboard shortcut?

In desktop Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on Windows or Linux, or Command + Shift + Delete on Mac. The shortcut opens the deletion controls without deleting anything. Choose All time, check Cached images and files, leave other categories unselected if you want to retain them, and select Delete data.

Does offloading Discord on iPhone clear the same data as deleting it?

No, Apple says offloading retains the app’s documents and data. Deleting the app removes its related local data, so choose deletion when you need that broader reset.

Can Safari clear caches without removing Discord’s website cookies?

Yes, Safari on Mac has a separate Empty Caches action. Open Safari > Settings > Advanced, check Show features for web developers, and close Settings. Choose Develop > Empty Caches, then reload Discord’s website. This empties browser caches across websites.
