To change your Discord username on desktop or in a browser, open User Settings > Account > Account Info, select Edit beside Username, and enter your new username and account password to confirm the change. On iPhone or Android, tap You Bar, tap the cogwheel, then select Account > Username to enter your replacement.
Your account username is your unique name, separate from your global display name and server nicknames. Change your display name if you want a different visible profile name, or your server nickname if the change should apply to just one server.

Change your username on desktop or browser

In the other account settings layout, select My Account, then select Edit beside Username. Enter your replacement username and account password, then confirm the change.
You can also open settings with a keyboard shortcut in the desktop app or browser. On Windows, press Ctrl + ,; on macOS, press Command + ,. Continue through the account settings path your client shows to edit your username.
Change your username on iPhone or Android
In the Discord app for iOS or Android, tap You Bar at the bottom of the screen, then tap the upper-right cogwheel. Select Account > Username and enter the replacement username. Follow the confirmation prompts to finish the change.
For a shortcut, long-press You Bar to open Account, then select Username. Alternatively, long-press your avatar to open Settings, then select Account > Username. Enter your replacement and complete the same username change.
Fix a rejected username
Your username must be unique and contain between 2 and 32 characters. Use lowercase letters from a to z, numbers from 0 to 9, underscores, or periods. Remove any consecutive periods, such as the pair in alex..river, and keep other symbols out of the name.
If your choice is already taken, try a different combination within those limits. Adding an allowed number, underscore, or period gives you another name to try, but the result must still be unique.
Discord requires email or phone verification to claim a username. If Discord asks you to verify your account, complete that step before claiming the name.
Discord allows two username changes per week, so check the spelling before confirming. If you have reached that limit, wait until you can change it again. Editing a display name or server nickname does not change your account username.
Change your global display name
On desktop or browser, select your username at the bottom-left, then select Edit Profile. Another entrance is to open User Settings > Account and select Edit Profiles. In the profile editor, change Display Name.
If your desktop client shows the alternative profile settings layout, open User Settings > Profiles. Edit Display Name there to change your visible profile name.
On iPhone or Android, tap You Bar, then tap Edit Profile. Change Display Name, then tap Save. You can also reach the mobile editor by tapping your avatar, then tapping Edit Profile.
Change a server nickname on desktop
A server nickname changes your name only within that server and requires the Change Nickname permission. In the desktop app or browser, right-click your name in the server member list and select Edit per-server profile. Enter the nickname, then select Save.
You can reach the same editor from a message you sent in that server. Right-click your avatar or name on the message, select Edit per-server profile, enter the replacement, and select Save.
In desktop or browser layouts that show the profile-settings route, open User Settings > Profiles > Per-server Profiles. Choose the server, edit its nickname, and select Save Changes.
Another entrance is your avatar in the member list, a message, or a voice channel. Select your avatar, select Edit Profile, then select Edit per-server profile. Edit the nickname and select Save Changes.
Use the nickname command in a server
You can use the built-in /nick command when you have Change Nickname permission. In a server text channel, type the command followed by your desired nickname, then send it. For example, to change your nickname to Picasso, send:
/nick PicassoThe change applies only to that server. To replace your unique account username, use the account settings steps above.
Change a server nickname on mobile
On iOS or Android, tap the server’s name and select Edit Per-server Profile. Edit the nickname, then tap Save in the upper-right. You need the server’s Change Nickname permission for this change.
Alternatively, tap your avatar in a server message or member list, then tap Edit Per-server Profile. Edit the nickname and tap Save in the upper-right.
You can also open Edit Profile > Per-server Profiles and choose the server. Edit that server’s nickname, then tap Save in the upper-right.
Get help with nickname permissions
If you cannot change your server nickname because of permissions, ask the server owner or administrators to give your role the Change Nickname permission, or ask a moderator with Manage Nicknames whose highest role ranks above yours to change it. The moderator can right-click your name in the member list or your name or avatar on a message, open the nickname editor, enter the replacement, and select Save. That action changes only your nickname in that server.
