To change the order of your Instagram posts, open your profile, touch and hold a post, tap Reorder grid, then drag posts into position. On iPhone and Android accounts with the feature enabled, your changes save automatically. Pinned posts stay at the top until you unpin them.
The short version
- Move existing posts: Use Reorder grid from the touch-and-hold menu on your profile.
- Keep favorites first: Tap Pin to main grid to feature selected posts at the top.
- Release a pinned post: Tap Unpin from main grid before placing it among your unpinned posts.
- Missing the editor: Update Instagram first, but an update does not guarantee that your account has the feature enabled.

Rearrange posts with Reorder grid
Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android phone and go to your profile. Touch and hold a post in the main grid, then tap Reorder grid. Inside the editor, touch and hold the post you want to move and drag it to the desired position.
Repeat that action for the other posts you want to rearrange. Changes save automatically and are visible to everyone who visits your profile. You can move existing posts without uploading them again.
Pinned posts remain at the top while you rearrange the grid. If a pinned post belongs farther down in your layout, unpin it using the steps below before moving it. If Reorder grid is missing from the menu, follow the update step at the end.
Pin posts you want people to see first
Use pinning when you want to keep selected posts at the top of your profile. In the Instagram mobile app, open your profile and open the post you want to feature. Tap the three-dot options button, then tap Pin to main grid.
Repeat for the other posts you want to feature, within your account's pin limit. Meta says standard accounts allow up to three pinned posts. If you have reached your limit, unpin an existing selection before pinning another.
Unpin a post before moving it farther down
Open your profile and open the pinned post you want to move. Tap the three-dot options button, then tap Unpin from main grid. This releases the post from its fixed position at the top.
To choose its placement among the unpinned posts, return to your profile grid and touch and hold a post. Tap Reorder grid, then touch and hold the released post and drag it into position. That final placement step requires the reordering feature to be enabled on your account.
Use extra pins with Instagram Plus
If you already subscribe to Instagram Plus and your account includes the expanded pin benefit, you can feature up to six posts. Open your profile and open a post, tap the three-dot options button, then tap Pin to main grid. Repeat for the other posts you want to feature, up to that limit.
Meta says subscription benefits can vary by region, app, and account. The six-post allowance applies to subscribers with that benefit. When you reach your account's limit, unpin a featured post to make room for another.
Update Instagram when Reorder grid is missing
Update the Instagram mobile app first when you cannot find Reorder grid. You can get the app through the official Instagram download page. After updating, return to your profile, touch and hold a post, and look for Reorder grid again.
The reordering feature must also be enabled on your account, so updating alone does not guarantee access. If the menu still lacks Reorder grid, use pinning to choose which posts sit at the top in the meantime. Pinning controls your featured posts; use the grid editor to arrange the remaining posts once your account has access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you change the order by archiving and restoring a post?
Restoring an archived post returns it to its former position, so do not use that action to move it to the front. Archiving changes which posts are visible; use Reorder grid to choose the placement of existing posts.
Does deleting a post and uploading it again move the original?
Uploading again creates a new post rather than moving the existing one. You do not need to delete and upload again to arrange posts with Reorder grid.
Will changing carousel slides or the home feed rearrange your profile?
Changing slides inside a carousel does not reorder separate posts on your profile. Editing thumbnails, sorting Your activity, and changing the home-feed view also do not rearrange the main profile grid.
Does Instagram's Repost action move a post into the main grid?
Reposts appear in a separate profile tab. Using Repost does not move an existing post within your main grid.
Do you need Instagram Plus to reorder your grid?
You do not need an Instagram Plus subscription for ordinary Reorder grid access, but the feature must be enabled on your account. The subscription's expanded pin allowance is a separate benefit.
