We can do so many awesome things with our Android smartphones and tablets, including taking photos and recording videos. Now, wherever you go and whatever you do, you can easily capture every moment because you have the camera with you all the time. But, you have to protect your privacy. You may wonder just now, what the camera got to do with my privacy? It has a lot actually because of geotagging – when taking photos and videos your location will be recorded. You can see the location just by opening the photo’s details. On some devices, geotagging is enabled by default, on other devices isn’t, but most importantly, you can deactivate it. Here, we’re going to show you how to turn off geotagging on Android devices.

The steps are similar for all Android devices.

To turn off geotagging on Android devices do the following:

  • Open the Camera app on your Android smartphone or tablet
  • Tap on three horizontal lines to open the menu
  • Now, tap on the gear icon
  • You will see the camera settings
  • Tap on GPS tag (on some devices this option is named differently, for instance, geo tag, location tag, etc.) and turn it off.

There you go. Geotagging will now be disabled, and location on photos and videos you took with your Android device won’t be recorded. If your kids have smartphones, make sure to disable geotagging on their devices as well. If they are using iPhone, you may read this guide: How To Turn Off Geotagging On iOS Devices.

  1. Hi,
In regard to your discussion, I would recommend a phone application that is quite useful for the purpose. I use an app named “GPS Privacy” that automatically deletes the GPS location tags if the photo is taken in a privacy area – like around your home, school, work, etc. This way you don’t have to remember whether you have the GPS tags on or off. Simply define your privacy areas, and your pictures won’t have GPS coordinates when made in these zones.
