Jared Palmer has left Xbox less than three months after becoming its vice president of engineering and joined AI company Cognition to lead engineering.
Palmer announced the move in a July 21 post on X. He thanked Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and the Xbox team but did not give a reason for leaving.
Palmer had announced his Xbox appointment on May 5 as vice president of engineering and technical adviser to Sharma. At the time, he said his work would focus on tools, services and experiences for developers and players across the Xbox ecosystem, according to GamesRadar.
PC Gamer reported that Palmer would work directly with Sharma on complex product and engineering problems, with an emphasis on developer tools and infrastructure. Before moving to Xbox, Palmer was a vice president in Microsoft's CoreAI group and previously worked on AI at Vercel.
The July 21 departure announcement came 77 days after Palmer announced the Xbox role. His post did not explain the move.
Cognition develops Devin, an AI software engineering product. Palmer said he joined the company to lead engineering.
