Vivaldi 8.2, released today, adds a built-in calculator to the address field and makes it easier to install progressive web apps (PWAs), according to the company's announcement.
The calculator works locally, so calculations are private and not saved to history. Typing a math expression in the URL field shows the result, and pressing Enter copies it to the clipboard. Users who prefer not to see these suggestions can disable them in Settings under Address Bar > Address Field Suggestions by unchecking the "Local calculator" box.
For PWAs, sites that offer installation now display an "Install" icon directly in the address field, replacing the previously buried context-menu path. Installed PWAs can be managed at vivaldi://apps, and returning to a site that is already installed shows an icon to open it in the app. The company notes that only a small manifest file and icon are downloaded, since the app runs from the web server or in-browser if coded for offline use.
The release also previews an enterprise version of the browser, which the announcement describes as "a real alternative to Big Tech browsers, built for organizations of all sizes." The first technical preview focuses on policy management and browser customization, and Vivaldi is inviting feedback by email to shape future development.
The update follows a series of release candidates for the desktop browser this week, which were offered for testing before the stable release. Vivaldi says calculations performed in the address field "are safe from prying eyes and will not be saved anywhere, not even your History."
