Sony Pictures Animation broke a four-year silence on its Spider-Verse trilogy finale with exclusive CinemaCon footage that drew strong reactions from attendees, yet failed to convince skeptical fans about its latest release target.

During its April 13 presentation at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, Sony showed the first two minutes plus a sizzle reel of clips from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse to theater owners and industry insiders. The footage picks up immediately after Across the Spider-Verse's cliffhanger ending, showing Miles Morales tied to a punching bag and confronting his Earth-42 counterpart known as The Prowler.

Attendees reported the preview played in a rare 1.43:1 aspect ratio formatted for IMAX and premium large-format screens, marking a visual departure for animated features typically confined to standard dimensions. The studio also publicly released four new stills featuring returning characters including Peter B. Parker, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man 2099, and Gwen Stacy crossing interdimensional bridges.

Despite these developments, online reactions reveal persistent doubts about whether Sony can deliver on its revised June 18, 2027 release date, a one-week improvement over the previously announced June 4 slot.

The skepticism stems from Beyond the Spider-Verse's troubled production history: originally scheduled for March 2024 before being pulled from Sony's calendar entirely following Hollywood strikes and reports of difficult working conditions during Across the Spider-Verse's production.

"We're confidently targeting June 2027 completion."

Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have publicly rejected suggestions of another delay, telling TechRadar last month they're "confidently" targeting June 2027 completion. Their confidence contrasts with fan sentiment across social platforms where comments like "hope this doesn't get delayed further" and "no faith" dominate discussions about the release timeline.

The newly revealed images hint at emotional flashback sequences showing younger versions of Miles' father Jeff Davis and uncle Aaron Davis alongside present-day confrontations between Miles and his alternate universe self. One image caption reading "Gonna save your dad" directly references Across the Spider-Verse's central conflict where Miles' father faces imminent death unless multiversal rules are broken.

The presentation positioned Beyond the Spider-Verse as concluding Miles Morales' three-film arc while expanding its animated universe through upcoming projects including an R-rated Bloodborne animated adaptation co-produced by PlayStation Productions and YouTuber JackSepticEye, and a live-action Helldivers film starring Jason Momoa and directed by Justin Lin scheduled for November 10, 2027.
