Android Central reports that Samsung and Corning are reportedly developing a self-healing display glass for the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, a surface that can recover from everyday micro-scratches.
The leak, attributed to leaker Schrödinger on X, points to a new self-healing surface for the next generation of Gorilla Armor. Instead of simply making the glass harder, the surface may be slightly softer than the tempered glass we're used to, but would gain the ability to recover from smaller scratches on its own over time.
If the technology works as intended, Samsung could move Gorilla Armor from focusing purely on scratch resistance to scratch recovery. The leaker doesn't reveal much more about how the technology works or how far along Samsung and Corning are in its development.
The feature is explicitly said to be intended for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is still months away from launch. Self-healing tech isn't entirely new. LG's G Flex 2 had a self-healing back panel over a decade ago, but the Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring it to a flagship phone's front display.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra already introduced Samsung's Privacy Display technology, which prevents people nearby from easily seeing the screen. The self-healing glass could mark another major display upgrade for the next Ultra model, though nothing is set in stone and plenty could change before the phone's release.
