Android Central reports that Samsung and Corning are developing a self-healing display glass for the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, a self-healing surface that can recover from everyday micro-scratches.
The leak, attributed to leaker Schrödinger on X, points to a new self-healing layer for the next generation of Gorilla Armor. Instead of making the glass harder, the surface may be slightly softer than tempered glass but would gain the ability to recover from smaller scratches on its own over time.
This would shift Gorilla Armor's focus from scratch resistance to scratch recovery.
The feature is explicitly intended for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is still months away from launch. Self-healing tech isn't entirely new, LG's G Flex 2 had a self-healing back panel over a decade ago, but the Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring it to a flagship phone's front display for the first time.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra already introduced Samsung's Privacy Display technology, which prevents people nearby from easily seeing the screen. The self-healing glass would mark another major display upgrade for the next Ultra model, though plenty could change before the phone's release.
