Samsung introduced intelligent eyewear at Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 as a hands-free path to mobile AI, with privacy built in from the start to protect wearers and people nearby. Samsung Newsroom detailed the product through an interview with James Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of XR R&D Team in the Mobile eXperience Business.
The frames pack a high-quality camera, microphones, and speakers so the glasses can respond through natural conversation and cut the need to stop and grab a phone. Samsung says the eyewear can understand what users see, hear, and experience around them, supporting real-time guidance, live translation, line-of-sight capture, and context-aware help while they stay present in the moment.
Privacy hardware and software sit at the center of the design. A bystander-facing LED and an inner LED show when recording is active.
Wear detection turns recording off when the glasses come off, and thwart detection stops recording if someone blocks the external LED. Users manage privacy and personalization on a connected Galaxy phone, and Samsung states that audio, video, and screen-sharing data are not used to train AI models.
The company plans further privacy work to expand transparency and control.
Engineering focuses on all-day wear. Slim hinges, thin-wall molding, lightweight materials, balanced weight across the frame, and fit work with eyewear partners target the forehead, cheekbones, and areas behind the ears.
Thermal graphite on the left side helps keep processor heat off the face. Samsung cites up to nine hours of active use on a charge, including demanding sessions such as Gemini and video recording, with a case that supports more than seven full recharges.
Battery life still varies with network conditions, features, settings, and charge cycles.
The glasses act as a companion to Galaxy phones and other Galaxy wearables. Split computing shares work with a paired phone.
Users can start hands-free recording, preview captures on Now Bar, and open them in Galaxy Gallery. Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds pairings add wrist control, gestures on Galaxy Watch9, and uninterrupted audio switching.
Apps and services from Samsung, Google, and third parties remain reachable through the hands-free interface.
