Samsung restored two popular camera features through a Camera Assistant update this week, but moved them from the main camera interface to a companion app. The Single Take and Dual Rec modes return for Galaxy S25 users running the second One UI 8.5 beta after being removed in the initial December release.
Users must now enable the features through Camera Assistant version 4.5.00.13, available on the Galaxy Store. The app adds an "Additional modes" section where toggles for Single Take and Dual Rec appear. Once activated, the modes return to the camera's Modes selector.
Single Take automatically captures photos and videos while panning around a scene, creating multiple still images and video clips. Dual Rec records video from two phone cameras simultaneously. Both were previously built directly into Galaxy phones' standard camera app.
Samsung's Camera Assistant update also introduces professional photography tools. Pro mode presets let users save preferred settings including ISO, shutter speed, exposure value, focus, and white balance. Focus peaking becomes customizable with adjustable color and thickness options.
The update reportedly adds support for TILTA wireless lens controllers, professional-grade accessories typically used with cinema cameras. Code snippets discovered in Camera Assistant suggest Samsung is laying groundwork for Galaxy devices to work with TILTA hardware for remote focus and zoom control.
Samsung has not officially explained the interface redesign. The move appears to reflect a broader industry trend where companies streamline default menus for casual users while offering advanced features through companion apps. This approach keeps main interfaces clean while maintaining flexibility for enthusiasts.
One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2 and currently in beta testing for Galaxy S25 devices. The software is expected to debut publicly alongside Samsung's next flagship lineup, likely the Galaxy S26 series. Camera Assistant version 4.5.00.13 requires One UI 8.5 and is available through the Galaxy Store or manual APK installation.
The restoration of Single Take and Dual Rec via Camera Assistant represents Samsung's shift toward customizable camera experiences. While adding an extra step for accessing specialized modes, the approach maintains functionality for photography enthusiasts who rely on these features.
