Raspberry Pi's Smart Display Module is on sale now for $30 through Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers worldwide. The board is an adapter for the Compute Module 5, which buyers must purchase separately. It was developed alongside Sharp Display Solutions Europe.
The module slots into displays that follow the Intel Smart Display Module specification, carrying power, video, audio, data and control internally. It handles 4K video playback. An M.2 slot on the board accepts extra storage or an AI accelerator, including a Hailo processor or other compatible parts.
Raspberry Pi says the design is fanless and silent, and it is built for continuous 24/7 operation. The company is aiming it at flight information displays, wayfinding screens, and retail and corporate signage. It also pairs with Intel SDM projectors for exhibits and immersive installations. Content management systems that already support the Raspberry Pi 5 or CM5 should work with it.
The module was first introduced in January 2026 and shown at Integrated Systems Europe in Barcelona the following month. Jon McIntosh, founder of Media Looper, said his team tested the module with a Sharp display for three months. "It does everything our Raspberry Pi 5 does, with no cable, power supply, or bracket for a customer to disturb. We would deploy it as our default for any customer whose display has an SDM slot."
