Qualcomm has officially started teasing two next-gen flagship processors, with the chips now carrying the names Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950) and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 (SM8975). Both are built on a 2nm manufacturing process, marking Qualcomm's first deployment of that fabrication technology and promising significant gains in power efficiency and performance for flagship Android devices launching next year.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is described as the standard top-tier chip, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is positioned as an even more premium version. The "Elite" branding aligns with an update to Qualcomm's naming scheme, replacing the previous "Gen" or "Plus" suffixes.

Qualcomm's teaser, posted on social media, promoted "Dual 8 Elites" and "twice the options" ahead of a September 22 reveal at Snapdragon Summit. The company says these chips bring the latest connectivity tech, "extraordinary" GPU performance, and "immersive" gaming experiences.

The teaser itself did not name the chips, though their models had been expected.

Phones powered by the new silicon are likely to appear next year, and Xiaomi 18 Pro series watchers can look for which models integrate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, given Xiaomi often leads adoption of Qualcomm's latest flagship platforms. The full details land on September 22 when Qualcomm takes the stage.
