Microsoft introduced new Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models today at Snapdragon Summit, both built on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus processor and both going on sale October 13 in select markets. The Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1149.99, while the Surface Laptop 13-inch starts at $1,199. A new Surface Mouse joins them, starting at $79.99, in Black and Platinum.
The pitch is familiar for this line: thin, light, fanless Windows PCs that Microsoft says carry the same design as the previous generation while doing more with it. Microsoft claims up to 18% better battery efficiency, more than 60% faster graphics, and up to 95% faster local AI processing on the neural processing unit compared with the prior models. Those figures come from Microsoft's own September 2026 testing against the first-edition devices with Snapdragon X Plus, and the company notes performance varies by configuration.
The Surface Pro 12-inch keeps its tablet-to-laptop flexibility, with the keyboard and Slim Pen sold separately, and Microsoft says it adds about an hour of active web browsing over the previous model. Its 500-nit PixelSense touchscreen is 25% brighter than before, and a new Black color joins the lineup. The Surface Laptop 13-inch pairs the same brighter 500-nit panel with a 3:2 touchscreen, a full-size backlit keyboard, and Microsoft's estimate of 22.5 hours of battery life.
Microsoft is also using the Pro 12-inch to launch Ink Canvas, a pen-first tool for sketching, annotating, generating images, and summarizing text on the canvas itself. It will come preinstalled on the new tablet and be downloadable from the Microsoft Store for other supported Surface and Windows devices on October 13. The Surface Mouse, meanwhile, adds haptic feedback that Microsoft says gives a physical response to actions like a click registering or a window snapping into place, along with Bluetooth 6.0 and a customizable button for Copilot.
Both PCs and the mouse will also be sold to commercial customers through Surface for Business starting October 13, and the Pro 12-inch will offer an optional 5G configuration. Microsoft lists Secured-core protections, Pluton with TPM 2.0, and Surface UEFI among the built-in security features, plus management tools aimed at IT teams.
The launch lands days after Microsoft used IFA to highlight new Windows PCs across price points and purposes from its partners, a reminder that the company's own hardware now shares that stage with a much wider field of devices. What the announcement does not include is any change to the starting prices of the previous generation, or a stated battery figure for the Pro 12-inch beyond the extra browsing hour.
Microsoft is positioning the two machines for different buyers: the Pro for people who want one device that shifts between tablet and laptop, and the Laptop for those who want a conventional thin-and-light touchscreen notebook.
