LG Display says it has begun mass production of a 24.5-inch OLED panel that refreshes at 720Hz, a screen the company describes as the first OLED built specifically for esports. ASUS is the first monitor maker to use the panel, in the ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace.
The panel is a 24.5-inch FHD display with a 1920x1080 resolution. LG Display claims the 720Hz refresh rate is the highest among gaming OLED displays, and says the panel's 0.02ms response time is the fastest. The company says the screen cuts motion blur and ghosting, which matters most in fast genres such as first-person shooters and racing games.
Because each pixel emits its own light, the panel needs no backlight. LG Display is aiming the screen at the esports monitor market, where 24-inch-class displays are the norm because they let players take in the whole screen at once. The company says it wants to push OLED into that mainstream.
LG Display says it will accelerate its esports market strategy and is applying AI transformation, or AX, to its gaming display development. Its broader gaming lineup runs from 20-inch to 40-inch class sizes, and some models in that range carry Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology.
"As a technology-driven company, we will lead the transition to OLED in the gaming monitor market and lead the mainstreaming of OLED in the global market," said Hyeon-woo Lee, Head of the Large Display Business Unit at LG Display.
The announcement leaves several buyer questions open. LG Display did not disclose a price for the panel or for the ASUS monitor, gave no retail availability date, and named no launch regions. The company announced the production start on Sept. 20, 2026, from Seoul.
LG Display trades on the NYSE under LPL and on the KRX under 034220. It employs roughly 53,049 people worldwide, with manufacturing in Korea and China and back-end assembly in Korea, China, and Vietnam.
