Nintendo Switch 2 owners face another wait for a major third-party release as Hitman developer IO Interactive pushes back its James Bond origin story. The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light now arrives "later this summer," missing the May 27 launch date set for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.

IO Interactive confirmed the platform-specific delay in a social media update earlier today.

"007 First Light comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on May 27th, 2026, and Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer,"

the developer stated.

No specific reason was provided for pushing back only the hybrid console version.

This marks the second delay for what was originally a March release across all platforms. The game received a blanket postponement last December before settling on its current late-May window for most systems.

For Switch 2 players, it continues a pattern of staggered AAA arrivals that began with Elden Ring's platform-exclusive holdback announced alongside Nintendo's current-generation hardware. The delay follows IO Interactive's problematic debut on Nintendo's newest console. Hitman World of Assassination launched with technical issues on Switch 2 before receiving post-release patches. That experience may inform the studio's decision to take additional time with its Bond adaptation rather than rushing a potentially compromised port.

"We're excited to see players discovering James Bond's reimagined origin story,"

IO Interactive wrote, adding that they're "looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms." The statement suggests optimization challenges rather than content differences between versions.

First Light serves as an origin story exploring James Bond's early career before obtaining his "00" status and license to kill. The game features new interpretations of classic characters like M and Q alongside original creations including a villain portrayed by musician Lenny Kravitz.

PlayStation players will have additional incentive to pick up the May release through Sony's limited-edition 007 First Light DualSense controller. PC users faced their own confusion earlier this year when initially published system requirements suggested demanding hardware specifications that were later corrected as an internal communication error.

The summer window places First Light's Switch 2 debut sometime between June and August based on typical industry usage of "later this summer." With no firm date announced beyond that seasonal range, Nintendo handheld enthusiasts face an indefinite wait while other platform owners access IO Interactive's cinematic action experience starting May 27.
