GitHub is gradually reopening signups for Copilot Business and Enterprise, covering customers who pay with credit cards or PayPal. The company says the reopening will be phased in across the coming couple of weeks, and the post gives no completion date. GitHub says the two plans keep their existing prices and seat prorations.
The reopening comes with stricter account vetting for credit card and PayPal customers, as well as updated billing experiences. New seat assignments will require payment before Copilot access is granted, and all assigned seats will be charged upfront at the next billing cycle. If usage goes beyond the included amount, an additional payment may be required. These billing updates take effect October 1, 2026 for existing customers. The move follows a series of related changes to Copilot. GitHub has said it will deprecate selected Copilot models on October 2, 2026, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini 3.6 Flash, Kimi K2.7 Code, and Claude Opus 4.7, with suggested alternatives such as Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3, and Claude Opus 5.
Earlier this week, GitHub made Gemini 3.8 Flash available in Copilot, billed at introductory pricing through December 31, 2026. Enterprise-managed settings now allow any default model to be set, customizable by the enterprise team. Content exclusions are also generally available in the Copilot app and CLI for Business and Enterprise customers.
The announcement does not specify whether the reopening will extend to other payment methods later, nor does it detail the exact vetting process. GitHub also says that customers who cancel Copilot outright and sign up again later can run into the new vetting and billing behavior.
