GitHub has made Claude Haiku 5.5 generally available in GitHub Copilot, adding Anthropic’s newest lightweight model for quick coding edits, terminal tasks and work involving subagents. GitHub says the model is intended to handle fast tasks at high volume. Access covers the Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans, with usage charged at provider list pricing through usage-based billing.
The rollout is gradual, so eligible users may have to wait before Claude Haiku 5.5 appears among their available models. Once access reaches an account, users can choose it through the model picker in supported Copilot tools. For Business and Enterprise customers, administrators can also control whether their organization has access through Copilot’s model policy settings.

GitHub says its early tests found that Haiku 5.5 performed on a par with Claude Sonnet 5 across many coding tasks while requiring significantly fewer tokens and steps. The comparison is against Claude Sonnet 5, rather than the Claude Sonnet 5.5 model GitHub added to Copilot last month. GitHub positions Haiku 5.5 for quick edits and terminal work as well as tasks assigned to subagents.
The supported interfaces include Copilot CLI for terminal use and GitHub Copilot cloud agent for agent work. Developers can also select Claude Haiku 5.5 in Visual Studio Code or JetBrains IDEs, among other development environments. Access extends beyond those coding tools to github.com and GitHub Mobile, including its iOS and Android versions.
Under Copilot’s default model enablement setting, newly added models become available automatically. An administrator can prevent that access by switching off the global default or disabling Claude Haiku 5.5 specifically. The model policy controls apply to organizations using either Copilot Business or Copilot Enterprise.
The addition follows GitHub’s September 28 introduction of Claude Sonnet 5.5, which it described as suited to everyday, clearly scoped development tasks such as feature building and bug fixes, also with usage-based charges at provider list pricing. On October 2, GitHub deprecated several older Copilot models, including Claude Opus 4.7, and recommended Claude Opus 5.5 as its replacement.
