Dune: Awakening is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Game Pass, and the Xbox launch arrives alongside an update that adds a single-player mode to the survival game. Players who want to avoid other people entirely can now run the whole game in PvE, with PvP left as an optional activity that does not cost them any content. The release follows Xbox's earlier confirmation that the title was headed to Game Pass this month.

The new single-player mode ships with three difficulty presets, plus a set of custom settings for anyone who wants finer control. Those sliders cover sandstorms, harvesting, XP multipliers, building limits and durability. Customization options for rented private servers vary by provider, according to the announcement.

Combat has been reworked as well. The parry window is wider, NPC animations have been revised, enemy stamina has been rebalanced, and heavy attacks now land damage comparable to a slow blade. Enemy AI has been improved, and dashing now passes through enemies rather than stopping at them. Two weapons have been added since launch, Dual Blades and Pyrocket, while the Rapier has been rebuilt from the ground up as a parrying weapon.

The story has moved forward too. The Great Convention Part III is now live, described as the final chapter of Book One, and the full narrative can be played from start to finish in a single run. Existing story missions now hand out swatches, weapon and armour variants and decorations, including rewards such as the Maw of the Worm Wall Relief and the Ascendant Throne of the Reverend Mother. Backed-up bases and vehicles now travel with a character between worlds.

The Landsraad endgame has been rebuilt as a mission-driven faction versus faction framework that works in both multiplayer PvE and single-player. It spans twenty ranks, running from outsider up to Atreides Envoy or Harkonnen Enforcer. Arrakis has grown by seven new mission locations and six Imperial Testing Stations, with more contracts and dynamic encounters added across the map.

A new Specializations system lets players spend points across five disciplines, with traits that improve damage, durability, inventory space, mission rewards and Augmentation. Augmentations modify unique Tier 6 weapons and armour, and their schematics are found in the Testing Stations and crafted using Landsraad resources. Late-game items now need fewer rare materials, a change the announcement ties to solo and single-player accessibility, and Augment crafting uses a bell curve so good rolls land more often.

Characters can be fully re-customized in Arrakeen and Harko Village, with new hairstyles and tattoos on offer. Each School of the Imperium gets its own armour set, and vehicles, containers and placeables can be renamed. The console version has a tailored interface and controls, and Xbox Series X renders at a higher native resolution with enhanced visuals. Game Pass, Play Anywhere shared progression, Cloud Gaming and the ROG Xbox Ally are all supported.

Anyone who plays between September 17 and October 22 gets the Matron's Decor launch reward. The Filmic Archive DLC also arrives today with cosmetics drawn from the Dune films. A free Polar Cap update is planned for later this year with an icy biome and new survival mechanics, though no date beyond that window was given. The announcement says full cross-play will follow the Xbox release, with further details promised later.

The Ultimate Edition comes with a five-day head start that began September 17 and includes four DLC packs: Wildlife of Arrakis, Lost Harvest, Raiders of the Broken Lands and The Water Wars. The Deluxe Edition includes a Season Pass covering the first four DLCs. No price was disclosed for either edition.
