ASUS has announced the Googlebook 14, a 14-inch ultraportable it describes as the first ASUS laptop built around Gemini Intelligence. The pitch is aimed at people who carry an Android phone and want the two devices to work as one: tasks started on a phone can be finished on the laptop, and phone apps can be cast to its screen. Buyers also get 12 months of Google AI Pro, which the company says includes expanded Gemini, Flow and Gemini Notebook features plus 5TB of cloud storage.
The headline number is weight. The Googlebook 14 starts at 0.99kg and measures as little as 10.9mm thick, built on a CNC-machined magnesium-aluminum chassis that ASUS says is tested to the MIL-STD 810H military durability standard. It comes in Dusk Ash, and ASUS says its Nano Ceramic Technology resists scratches, stains and abrasion.
Inside, ASUS offers up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 3 processor, up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. A 70Wh battery is rated for up to 18 hours of use, and the cooling system is tuned to keep the machine quiet under sustained load.
The display is a 14-inch 16:10 3K OLED touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1000 nits peak HDR brightness, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with a matte anti-glare treatment. Audio comes from six speakers, including dual force-canceling woofers and two tweeters, and the haptic touchpad uses six-point force sensing for consistent click pressure. The backlit keyboard has 1.5mm of key travel.
Gemini is meant to be reached without hunting for it. Wiggling the cursor activates the assistant through a feature ASUS calls Magic Pointer, which lets users point at something on screen to ask about it, compare it or create with it. The laptop also surfaces proactive suggestions based on what is currently displayed, without the user asking.
Ports are unusually generous for a chassis this thin: two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1b and a 3.5mm audio jack. WiFi 7 handles wireless connectivity.
ASUS did not disclose pricing or a release date in the announcement, and it did not say which markets will get the Googlebook 14 first. The device is positioned as the company's opening move in laptops designed for Gemini Intelligence rather than as a refresh of an existing line.
