Apple will begin iPhone 18 series mass production testing in early January 2026, according to multiple supply chain sources. The trial production phase starts shortly after New Year's Day, with manufacturing lines for Pro models already established.

Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital reports that iPhone 18 Pro assembly lines are operational. Mass production trials will begin before China's Spring Festival on February 17, 2026. This timeline aligns with Apple's typical development cycle for September launches.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature minimal exterior design changes, contradicting earlier rumors of major redesigns. Reports conflict on whether the Pro models will retain a smaller Dynamic Island cutout or adopt a punch-hole camera in the top-left corner. Some reports suggest Apple may be saving more significant design changes for future models, including a potential iPhone 20 anniversary edition in 2027.

Apple's 2026 iPhone lineup will follow a split launch strategy. Pro models debut in September alongside the company's first foldable iPhone, while standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models arrive in spring 2027. This staggered approach could smooth revenue distribution and reduce internal competition.

The foldable iPhone faces technical challenges with display creases, according to tipster Digital Chat Station. Apple engineers are reportedly struggling to achieve a completely flat screen when opened. The company continues testing ultra-thin flexible glass for the device.

iPhone 18 Pro models will feature Apple's 2-nanometer A20 chip and second-generation C2 modem. The Pro Max variant gains a variable aperture camera system, while under-display Face ID technology remains in testing. Standard models may upgrade to 12GB RAM.

Approximately 80% of iPhones manufactured in India are destined for the US market. A typical three-to-six month gap exists between test manufacturing and product shipment, suggesting potential March or April 2027 availability for standard iPhone 18 models.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirms the early January trial production schedule. The company's accelerated timeline reportedly aims to better manage component supply chains and manufacturing logistics ahead of the split launch cycle.
