Apple today introduced AirPods 5, an open-ear model featuring Active Noise Cancellation, starting at $129, with a Wireless Charging Case model at $149. Pre-orders begin today, and the earbuds will be in stores September 18 in the U.S. and more than 65 other countries.
The new model blocks up to 50% more noise than the AirPods 4 with ANC, according to Apple. It also includes next-generation Adaptive EQ, an improved Transparency mode, and Adaptive Audio that blends transparency and noise cancellation. Conversation Awareness automatically lowers media volume when you start speaking.

AirPods 5 support Siri AI, a beta feature arriving September 14 with iOS 27, initially in English with more languages in October. Siri Interactions let you nod or shake your head to respond to Siri. Live Translation is available on AirPods 5, activated by pressing the stems, using your voice, or with the iPhone Action button. The Wireless Charging Case model also adds a stem force sensor for adjusting volume with a swipe.
For the Wireless Charging Case model, Apple lists as much as five hours of ANC playback per charge and 22 hours in total when the case is included. That case works with Apple Watch chargers, Qi chargers, and USB-C. The earbuds have improved dust, sweat, and water resistance.
Apple says the AirPods 5 are made with 40% recycled material overall, including 70% recycled plastic in the case and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery, and manufacturing uses 35% renewable energy. AppleCare+ and AppleCare One are available.
The announcement makes no mention of the camera-equipped AirPods that have been rumored, with leaked beta software suggesting a camera system for Visual Intelligence and a possible late 2027 release.
