Minecraft does not have one universal built-in zoom key, so the right method depends on where you play. The fastest fix is the Spyglass, and you can make it feel even tighter by lowering Field of View first. Here are the current ways to zoom in Java Edition, Bedrock Edition, consoles, and mobile.
Use the Spyglass for built-in zoom
The Spyglass is Minecraft's vanilla zoom tool in current Java Edition and Bedrock Edition releases. It was added in Caves & Cliffs Part I, so you do not need a mod to use it.
Craft one by placing 1 Amethyst Shard above 2 Copper Ingots in a crafting table. Put the Spyglass in your hotbar, equip it, aim at the distant object, and use your normal use or interact control.
On PC, that control is typically right-click. On touchscreens and controllers, use the same control you normally use to use an item.
If the Spyglass is not enough, lower your Field of View next, then use the Spyglass again for stronger magnification.
Lower your Field of View
A lower FOV narrows the camera view and makes the scene feel zoomed in.
- 1.In Java Edition, press Esc and open Options....
- 2.Find the FOV slider near the top of the Options screen, not inside Video Settings....
- 3.Drag the FOV slider left to a lower value.
- 4.In Bedrock Edition, open Settings, then Video, then Field of View.
- 5.Choose a value below the default 60 degrees.
Tighten the Spyglass view
The most common reason the Spyglass still does not feel close enough is that your current FOV is set wide.
Set your FOV lower first using the video settings for your edition.
Equip the Spyglass and use it while looking at the area you want to inspect.
Mojang says the Spyglass uses one tenth of your current FOV. That means a lower FOV before using the Spyglass gives you a tighter zoomed-in view.
Turn on Windows Magnifier
Use this when Minecraft is running on Windows and you want the whole screen enlarged instead of changing Minecraft's camera. It works over Java Edition and Bedrock for Windows.
Press Windows logo key + Plus sign to turn on Magnifier and zoom in.
Press Windows logo key + Minus sign to zoom back out.
Press Ctrl + Alt and use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust zoom with the mouse.
When you are done, press Windows logo key + Esc to turn Magnifier off.
Use Mac and mobile zoom tools
On Mac, open Apple menu, then System Settings, then Accessibility, then Zoom.
Turn on Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom, Use trackpad gesture to zoom, or Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom.
Use the enabled shortcut or gesture while Minecraft is active.
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, then Accessibility, then Zoom, and turn on Zoom.
In Minecraft, double-tap with three fingers or use Accessibility Shortcut to turn Zoom on.
Double-tap with three fingers and drag up or down to adjust magnification, or triple-tap with three fingers and drag the Zoom Level slider.
On Android, open Settings, then Accessibility, then Magnification, and set a Magnification shortcut.
In Minecraft, use your shortcut, tap the screen, drag with two fingers to move around, and pinch with two fingers to adjust zoom.
Use the shortcut again to stop magnification.
These mobile and desktop accessibility tools enlarge the screen; they do not change Minecraft render distance or camera FOV.
Enable console zoom
Use this when you play Minecraft on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch and need system-level zoom. These tools enlarge the screen rather than adding a Minecraft camera zoom key.
On Xbox, press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system, Settings, Accessibility, and turn on Magnifier. Xbox identifies Magnifier as the feature for zooming in on screen text and images; the widely reported controller shortcut is to hold the Xbox button and press View, then zoom with the triggers and pan with the left stick.
On PS5, open Settings, then Accessibility, then Display and Sound, then Zoom, and turn on Enable Zoom. Press the PS button and Square button together to zoom, press them again to cycle magnification, use the right stick to adjust the display area when automatic movement adjustment is off, then press X.
On PS4, open Settings, then Accessibility, then turn on Enable Zoom. Press the PS button and Square button together, move the enlarged area with the directional buttons or sticks, and cancel with Circle or PS button + Square button.
On Nintendo Switch, open HOME Menu, then System Settings, then System, then Zoom, and turn Zoom on. While Minecraft is open, press the HOME Button twice, use X or Y to zoom in and out, press HOME once to lock the zoom level, and press HOME twice to exit.
On Nintendo Switch 2, open HOME Menu, then System Settings, then Accessibility, then Zoom, and turn it on. In Minecraft, press the HOME Button twice quickly, use X or Y or pinch on the touch screen to zoom, press HOME once to lock the level, and press HOME twice to exit.
Install Java Edition zoom mods
This fixes the missing one-key zoom behavior in Minecraft Java Edition.
For Zoomify, install the build that matches your Minecraft version. Minecraft 26.2 has a Fabric build only, so use a Quilt build only for versions where Zoomify still publishes one.
Put Zoomify's required dependencies in the same mods folder: Fabric API, Fabric Language Kotlin, and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL). Minecraft will not launch with Zoomify alone.
Launch Minecraft with that mod loader.
Open Controls and make sure the Zoomify keybind does not conflict.
Hold the default C key to zoom.
Use the mouse wheel for scroll zoom.
Open settings with /zoomify or the Mod Menu settings button.
For Just Zoom, install the Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge build matching your Minecraft version.
Launch with the matching loader.
Press the default hotkey, Z or Y depending on your keyboard layout.
Use the mouse wheel to adjust zoom.
Change the key in Controls.
Open mod options from the small spyglass button on the bottom-left side of the Pause Screen.
For Spyglass Improvements, install the Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt build matching your Minecraft version.
On Fabric, install Fabric and Fabric API.
Place the mod and Fabric API JARs in the mods folder.
Use the mouse scroll wheel for Spyglass Zoom or press Z for quick access to the Spyglass.
Set up Lunar Client zoom
Lunar Client includes a Zoom mod for Minecraft Java Edition.
- 1.Install Lunar Client.
- 2.Log in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft Java Edition or has Xbox Game Pass.
- 3.Choose a supported Minecraft version and launch the game.
- 4.Open the Lunar mod menu from the lunar logo at the bottom left or press Right Shift in game.
- 5.Enable or configure the Zoom mod, then adjust Lunar keybinds under Settings and Controls.
Skip older OptiFine zoom advice
Older Minecraft guides often recommend OptiFine zoom for Java Edition.
OptiFine's official downloads page lists builds up to Minecraft 26.1.2 preview and 1.21.11 release.
The Minecraft 26.2 release is not listed there.
For Minecraft 26.2, use the Spyglass, FOV settings, Windows or macOS zoom, or a current Java zoom mod instead.
On school, work, family-managed, or server-restricted setups, third-party mods and clients can be blocked or disallowed; use the built-in Spyglass or your device's accessibility zoom instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Minecraft have a built-in zoom key?
No. Current Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition have the Spyglass item and FOV settings, but not a universal native zoom hotkey.
What is the easiest way to zoom in Minecraft without mods?
Use a Spyglass. Craft it with 1 Amethyst Shard above 2 Copper Ingots, equip it, and use your normal use or interact control.
Can I zoom in farther with a Spyglass?
Yes. Lower your FOV first, then use the Spyglass. The Spyglass uses one tenth of your current FOV, so a lower FOV creates stronger magnification.
Do screen magnifiers change Minecraft render distance?
No. Windows Magnifier, macOS Zoom, mobile magnification, and console zoom enlarge what is already on screen. They do not change Minecraft's camera FOV or render distance.
