How to View Clipboard on Phone and Computer

Your clipboard can feel like a disappearing act. You copy something, need to check it, and there is no obvious button named Clipboard on half your devices.

The fix depends on where you are working. Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Android keyboards, iPhone, and Office all handle clipboard viewing differently, so start with the device in front of you and use the matching steps below.

1. Paste the current clipboard item first

Need the fastest answer? Paste the current item into a safe blank field, check it, then delete it.

1.Open a place where you can type, such as Notes, Messages, TextEdit, Word, Gmail, Keep, or a search field.
2.Tap or click the insertion point.
3.Choose Paste.
4.On Windows, ChromeOS, or Linux, press Ctrl+V.
5.On Mac, press Command-V.

That shows the current clipboard item only. It does not reveal older copied items.

2. Open clipboard history on Windows 11

1.Press Windows logo key + V.
2.Select Turn on if Windows asks to enable clipboard history.
3.Select any saved item to paste it.

Windows 11 has the most direct system clipboard viewer when you want more than the last copied item. To delete one entry, press Windows logo key + V, select See more or ... next to the item, then choose Delete. To erase the full list, open the same panel and select Clear all. Microsoft clears everything except pinned items, so unpin or delete those separately if you want them gone too.

For the main controls, go to Start > Settings > System > Clipboard. Use Clipboard history to turn history on or off, Clear clipboard data > Clear to wipe saved items on the device and in the cloud, again except for pinned items, and Sync across devices or Clipboard history across your devices to share supported clipboard content through a Microsoft account or work account. Windows keeps up to 25 entries, and sync supports text, HTML, and bitmap items up to 4 MB.

3. Find copied items on Android keyboards

Gboard - Open an app such as Gmail or Keep, tap a text area, tap Clipboard at the top of Gboard, then tap a copied item to paste it. To keep an item, touch and hold it, then tap Pin.
Samsung Keyboard - Touch and hold where the text should go, tap Clipboard, then select the copied text.
Microsoft SwiftKey for Android - Tap the Toolbar icon, choose Clipboard, then tap a clip to paste it. To add one manually, go to Toolbar > Clipboard > Pencil > +, enter the clip content, then tap Save. Swipe a saved clip left or right to delete it, or tap the Pin icon beside a clip to keep it.

On Android, the clipboard viewer lives inside the keyboard you use for typing, so open any app with a text field first. Gboard clears clipboard history shortly after use except for pinned text. If the clipboard button is missing, install or update Gboard, Samsung Keyboard, or Microsoft SwiftKey from its official app source.

4. Check the clipboard on iPhone and iPad

iPhone and iPad do not include a built-in general clipboard-history viewer in Apple’s verified current guidance. For a normal check, paste the current item into a safe editable field.

For a reusable clipboard check, build a shortcut:

1.Open Shortcuts.
2.Create or edit a shortcut.
3.Add Get Clipboard.
4.Add an output action such as Quick Look, Show Alert, or Stop and Output.
5.Run the shortcut when you want to display the current clipboard contents.

SwiftKey also gives iPhone and iPad users a saved-clips area. While typing with SwiftKey, tap +, choose Clipboard, then use Save for newly copied text or Edit to view, edit, delete, or rearrange saved clips. SwiftKey supports up to 30 clips, allows 1,000 characters per clip, and removes unsaved copied text after 1 hour.

5. Search clipboard history on Mac

Apple documents Spotlight clipboard history in the macOS Tahoe 26 Mac User Guide, so the steps below need that version. On earlier macOS versions there is no Spotlight Clipboard button, and Apple’s built-in option is pasting the current clipboard item.

1.Press Command-Space bar to open Spotlight.
2.Click the Clipboard button to the right of the search field, or press Command-4.
3.Search Clipboard history.
4.Use an item’s copy button, or select the item and press Command-C.
5.Paste it with Command-V.

Apple’s current Mac guidance puts clipboard history in Spotlight, not in Finder. To erase Spotlight clipboard history, open More and choose Clear History. On first use, select Enable when Spotlight asks.

Chromebooks make clipboard history a keyboard shortcut, which is handy once you know it.

1.Press Search + V or Launcher + V.
2.Move through copied items with Tab or the arrow keys.
3.Press Enter to paste the selected item.

For regular copy and paste, use Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste the current item. Use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste plain text. Google documents up to 5 copied items in the Chromebook clipboard menu.

7. Use Office Clipboard inside Microsoft apps

1.Open Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook for Windows.
2.Go to the Home tab.
3.In the Clipboard group, select the Clipboard dialog box launcher.
4.Double-click an item to paste it.

Microsoft Office has its own Clipboard pane on Windows. It helps inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, but it is not a systemwide Windows clipboard-history replacement.

In Outlook, open a message, go to the Message tab, then select the Clipboard dialog box launcher. The Office Clipboard stores up to 24 items and includes Paste All, Delete, and Clear All.

Clipboard sharing moves copied content between your own devices. It does not create one master clipboard list.

Apple Universal Clipboard - Keep your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro near each other, signed in to the same Apple Account, with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Handoff turned on. Each device also has to meet Apple’s Universal Clipboard system requirements, which cover iPhone 5 or later, iPad (4th generation) or later, iPad Air, iPad mini 2 or later, Macs introduced in 2012 or later, and Apple Vision Pro. Copying entire files from one Mac to another needs macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later. Copy on one device and paste on the other.
Phone Link for Android and Windows - This one is device-gated. Microsoft supports cross-device copy and paste on Surface Duo, Android devices running One UI 2.1 or above, and select HONOR, OPPO, ASUS, vivo, and Xiaomi models it lists. On a supported phone, open Phone Link > Settings > Features > Cross-device copy and paste on your PC, then turn on Allow this app to access and transfer content I copy and paste between my phone and PC. Microsoft supports text and images, and images over 1 MB are resized.
Samsung Continue apps on other devices - On both Galaxy devices, open Settings > Connected devices > Continue apps on other devices and turn on the switch. Both devices need the same Samsung account, the same Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth on, and One UI 3.1 or later.
Microsoft SwiftKey Cloud Clipboard - On SwiftKey for Android, open Microsoft SwiftKey > Rich input > Clipboard and turn on Sync clipboard history to the cloud. On Windows, go to Settings > System > Clipboard, turn on Clipboard history, then turn on Sync across devices.

On work or school devices, organization policies block clipboard history, browser clipboard access, and cross-device clipboard sync. When those switches are disabled, the device is managed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see everything I copied earlier?

Not everything. You see only what a clipboard-history tool still holds, and the caps vary: Windows 11 keeps 25 entries, the Chromebook clipboard menu holds up to 5, Office Clipboard stores 24, and Gboard clears unpinned clips shortly after use. Tools with a history view include Windows 11, Chromebook, Mac Spotlight clipboard history on macOS Tahoe 26, Office Clipboard, Gboard, Samsung Keyboard, and SwiftKey. A regular paste shows only the current clipboard item.

Does iPhone have clipboard history?

No built-in general clipboard-history viewer appears in Apple’s verified current iPhone and iPad guidance. Use Paste for the current item, Universal Clipboard for nearby Apple devices, Shortcuts with Get Clipboard, or SwiftKey saved clips.

Why is clipboard history missing on Windows 11?
