Need the newest NVIDIA Game Ready Driver before a game launch or after a graphics issue? NVIDIA App is NVIDIA's recommended route for supported GeForce PCs, and the official driver pages give you the same driver path when the app is missing or fails. Start with the NVIDIA App method, then use the manual installer, laptop OEM route, or Windows fallback that matches your setup.

Update Through NVIDIA App First

The most common cause is opening the wrong NVIDIA driver channel instead of Game Ready Drivers.

Open NVIDIA app and go to the Drivers page.

Use the dropdown in the top-right corner to select Game Ready Drivers.

Select Download and let the driver package finish downloading.

Select Install and let the installer complete before opening a game or changing graphics settings.

If no newer driver appears after Game Ready Drivers is selected, your PC already has the newest Game Ready release NVIDIA App offers for that system.

Install NVIDIA App If It Is Missing

Use NVIDIA App when your PC does not already have NVIDIA's current driver manager installed.

  1. 1.Open NVIDIA's NVIDIA App download page.
  2. 2.Select Download Now.
  3. 3.Run the downloaded installer.
  4. 4.Open NVIDIA app after installation.
  5. 5.Go to Drivers, choose Game Ready Drivers, then select Download and Install.

Turn On Automatic Driver Downloads

Open NVIDIA app.

Go to Settings.

Open Drivers.

Enable the option to automatically download a new driver when released.

When NVIDIA App prompts you, select Install.

Keep Game Ready Drivers selected so automatic downloads stay on the gaming driver branch.

Download The Driver From NVIDIA Manually

This method applies when you do not want to use NVIDIA App or the app's driver installation fails. NVIDIA still offers standalone GeForce drivers without NVIDIA App.

Open NVIDIA's official GeForce Drivers page.

Use Latest Driver Downloads and select Download.

For a specific GPU, use Manual Driver Search, choose the product fields for your graphics card, and set Download Type to Game Ready Drivers.

Select Find Drivers, open the matching driver page, and download the driver.

Run the downloaded installer and follow the installer prompts.

Clean Install After A Failed NVIDIA App Update

The most common cause is a damaged or incomplete previous driver installation blocking the new Game Ready driver.

Download the latest NVIDIA Game Ready Driver from NVIDIA's Game Ready Drivers download page, then close your open apps.

Right-click the NVIDIA display driver installer file and select Run as administrator.

If Windows User Account Control appears, select Yes.

Accept the default temporary files path and select OK.

Choose NVIDIA Graphics Driver and NVIDIA App, then select AGREE AND CONTINUE.

Choose Custom (Advanced) and select NEXT.

Enable Perform a clean installation, select Next, and reboot the PC after installation completes.

Use Your Laptop Maker’s Driver When Needed

Notebook graphics drivers follow a different path when the laptop maker customizes graphics behavior for a specific model. NVIDIA names the notebook OEM as the primary source for notebook graphics drivers.

Open your laptop maker's support site or companion app for your exact notebook model.

Install the OEM-qualified NVIDIA graphics driver offered for that model.

NVIDIA's direct notebook reference drivers are available for many supported GPUs, but NVIDIA does not control each laptop maker's driver update schedule.

If the OEM update does not include the Game Ready release you need, try NVIDIA app or NVIDIA's official GeForce Drivers page next.

Use Windows Fallbacks Carefully

Windows Update installs recommended drivers automatically on Windows 11, and optional driver updates sit under Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. Turn Receive updates for other Microsoft products on, select any listed driver updates, choose Download and install, then restart through Start > Shutdown or sign out > Restart.

Device Manager is a generic Windows driver tool. Right-click Start, open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click the NVIDIA device, choose Update driver, then select Search automatically for updated driver software.

When driver files are already downloaded, use Browse my computer for drivers, select the folder with Browse..., then continue with OK, Next, and Close. For normal Game Ready updates, use NVIDIA app or the NVIDIA installer.

If a recent driver update broke display behavior, open Properties for the NVIDIA device, go to Driver, and select Roll Back Driver when Windows offers it. That reverses a bad update; it does not install the newest Game Ready Driver.

Skip Older GeForce Experience Instructions

The most common cause is following an older guide that still tells you to open GeForce Experience and use the Drivers tab.

GeForce Experience is a legacy path. NVIDIA's current companion app is NVIDIA app, and NVIDIA says GeForce Experience will no longer be supported.

Returning to GeForce Experience requires uninstalling NVIDIA App through Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > NVIDIA App > the three-dot menu > Uninstall. Use NVIDIA app or NVIDIA's official GeForce Drivers pages instead.

Handle Work Or School PCs

This fixes blocked or delayed NVIDIA updates on managed Windows PCs.

Check whether the PC is managed by your workplace, school, or IT provider.

Use NVIDIA app only when you have permission to install graphics drivers yourself.

Admins manage driver delivery through tools such as Microsoft Intune admin center > Devices > Windows updates > Driver updates. Those policies deploy driver updates available through Windows Update and do not guarantee the newest NVIDIA Game Ready package immediately.

Ask your IT team for the approved NVIDIA display driver when you cannot install the Game Ready Driver yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need NVIDIA App to update Game Ready Drivers?

No. NVIDIA recommends NVIDIA App for GeForce Game Ready Driver downloads, but standalone GeForce drivers remain available from NVIDIA's official driver pages.

Why does NVIDIA App show Studio Drivers instead of Game Ready Drivers?

The driver channel is set to Studio Drivers. Open NVIDIA App, go to Drivers, use the top-right dropdown, and select Game Ready Drivers before downloading.

Is Windows Update enough for NVIDIA Game Ready Drivers?

Windows Update can deliver NVIDIA display drivers, but it is not the reliable way to get the newest Game Ready Driver on release day. Use NVIDIA App or NVIDIA's GeForce driver page for that.

What should I do if a new driver causes problems?

Use NVIDIA App's Drivers page and the three-dot menu to select Reinstall for a previously installed driver, or use Device Manager's Roll Back Driver option when Windows has a previous driver available.
