To update apps on an LG Smart TV, press Home, open Apps, select More Actions (⋯), and use the app update controls. On TVs with the matching labels, choose App Update, then Update All. Keep your TV connected to the internet while you update.
Some apps also offer an update when you open them. App updates and TV system software updates have separate controls, so enabling automatic system updates does not mean every installed app will update automatically.
The short version
- Update installed apps: Open Apps, select the three-dot menu, and use the app update controls.
- Update when opening: Select Update when an app offers an update at launch.
- Automatic updates: Hulu receives automatic updates on supported LG TVs, but that behavior does not apply to every app.
- When updating fails: Check app availability before deleting and reinstalling it.

Update apps through the Apps menu
Press Home, open Apps, and select More Actions, the three-dot icon. LG places app updating and deletion under this control in its webOS 25 and webOS 26 menus.
On the interface that labels the icon More options, open it, select App Update, then choose Update All. This installs the available app updates together. Menu names vary, so follow the update controls shown under your TV’s three-dot menu if those exact labels do not appear.
Install an update when an app opens
With your TV connected to the internet, press Home, highlight the app, and press the remote’s center button. If an update prompt appears, select Update. After installation, select Launch if the app does not open automatically.
Victory+ supports this workflow, but the prompt depends on the app. If you do not receive a prompt, return to Apps and check its update controls.
Receive automatic app updates
Hulu says its LG TV app receives updates automatically and the latest version should appear the next time you open it. Keep your TV online and open Hulu to receive those updates on a supported TV. Other apps may handle updates differently.
Your TV’s Auto Update or Allow Automatic Updates setting controls system software. For other installed apps, check the update controls in Apps rather than assuming that the system setting covers them.
Check availability before reinstalling
If an update fails or the app remains faulty, check that you can reinstall it before deleting anything. Open Apps, select the Search icon, and search for the app. Availability depends on your TV model, webOS version, and region.
You can also check compatibility in the official LG Apps catalogue using Search TV App. LG warns that withdrawn or discontinued apps may not be reinstallable, so confirm availability before removing your installed copy.
Installation requires internet access, sufficient storage, appropriate LG Services Country settings, and LG Account sign-in when required. Check these requirements if installation fails, and resolve any missing requirement before trying again.
Delete and reinstall a faulty app
Once you have confirmed availability, press Home and highlight the app. Press and hold Wheel (OK) to enter Edit App List, then select the Trash icon. Select Yes at the deletion confirmation.
You can also reach removal controls without holding the remote button. Press Home, select Edit App List at the end of the app list, then select the Delete icon above the app.
To install the app again, press Home, open APPS or LG Apps, and select the Search icon. Enter the app name, select Search, choose the app, and select Install. Select Launch after installation finishes.
For Victory+, you can also press Home and open APPS > More options > Manage Apps, with Manage App used on some interfaces. Select Victory+, choose Delete, then search for it in APPS and select Install. Open Victory+ and pair your account again.
Use your phone as the remote
If your compatible TV is already paired with LG ThinQ, connect your phone and TV to the same network. Open LG ThinQ and select the TV. Its remote controls let you navigate the TV and launch apps.
You can use those navigation controls to try the same app launch or Apps update workflow on your TV. ThinQ serves as the remote here; it has no separate app-update service. For information about supported TV controls, use LG’s official US ThinQ product page.
Update the TV system software separately
A system software update is a separate maintenance step when an app remains faulty. On TVs from 2020 onward running webOS 5.0 or later, press Settings, then open All Settings > Support > Software Update. Select Check for Updates and follow the TV’s installation prompts.
To enable automatic system updates on TVs with that setting, open the same Software Update screen and turn on Auto Update. Some TVs use Allow Automatic Updates instead. LG says menu names can differ by model and country.
For 2023 through 2026 models using LG’s alternative navigation, press Settings, select the Settings gear at the top, then open Support > Software Update. Slide Allow Automatic Updates to the right. For 2020 through 2022 models using that label, press Settings, open All Settings > Support > Software Update, and slide Allow Automatic Updates to the right.
After updating the system, return to the app or its update controls in Apps. Installing firmware does not mean every downloaded app has also been updated.
Install TV firmware from a USB drive
You can use a USB drive to install TV firmware when LG offers a matching package for your model. This method updates the TV system software; it does not install updates for downloaded streaming apps.
On a computer, open LG’s official US Software & Drivers download page and enter your exact TV model. Download the matching firmware package and extract it. Availability and compatibility depend on the model, so use only its matching package.
Use a FAT32- or NTFS-formatted USB drive and create a folder named LG_DTV at the drive’s root. Copy the extracted .epk file into that folder. Insert the drive into your TV and complete the displayed update instructions.
Receive a system update through digital broadcast
On supported models and in supported broadcast regions, open Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update. If your TV receives an update through digital broadcast, stay on the channel supplying it while the download runs. LG says changing channels stops the download until you return to that channel. This updates system software, so check downloaded apps separately through Apps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t you delete some apps before reinstalling them?
LG says default apps cannot be deleted, so the reinstall method applies only to removable apps. Hiding an app tile does not remove or reinstall the app.
Can you update an LG TV app from the LG Apps website?
The LG Apps website lets you look up apps and check compatibility, while LG's TV user guide covers installing and updating apps on the TV itself. Complete the installation or update through your TV’s supported interface.
Can you tell a voice assistant to update your LG TV apps?
LG's TV user guide does not list a voice command for updating installed apps; it covers updating them from the app controls on the TV. Use the TV’s app update controls or an update prompt when you open an app.
How do you update apps on an LG TV in a hotel?
Contact the property’s operator if you need an app updated on a managed hotel TV. LG Pro:Centric Cloud supports centralized software updates and administrator-controlled Smart Apps, so the property may control what you can change.
