To unblock a phone number on Android, open Phone, go to Settings, select Blocked numbers or Block numbers, and remove the number. In Phone by Google, tap Clear beside the number, then Unblock; in Samsung Phone, tap the red Minus icon. If calls or texts still do not arrive, check your messaging app, spam filters, and carrier controls for another restriction.
The short version
- Google Phone: Open Settings > Blocked numbers, tap Clear, then confirm with Unblock.
- Samsung Phone: Open Settings > Block numbers and tap the red Minus icon beside the number.
- Blocked texts: In Google Messages, open Spam & blocked, select the conversation, and tap Unblock.
- Remaining restrictions: Check the carrier or communication app if removing the phone's block does not restore contact.

Unblock a number in Phone by Google
Open Phone, tap More, the three-dot menu, then select Settings > Blocked numbers. Find the number you want to allow and tap Clear, the X beside it. Confirm by tapping Unblock.
Use this route on a Pixel or another compatible Android phone running Phone by Google. Follow the app on your device rather than looking for a separate menu based on your phone's brand.
If a caller was incorrectly marked as spam, open Phone > Recent calls and select the affected call. Tap Not spam, then tap Unblock if the number is also blocked. Correcting the spam label and removing the number block are separate actions.
Remove a block in Samsung Phone
On a Galaxy phone using Samsung Phone, open Phone and tap More options, the three vertical dots. Select Settings > Block numbers, then tap the red Minus icon beside the number. Your menus may differ by model, carrier, and software version.
To unblock a saved contact, open Samsung Contacts and select the person. Tap More > Unblock contact. If you have a recent call instead, open Phone > Recents, select the caller, and tap the detail icon. Then tap More > Unblock contact, where that action is available.
Choose which contact numbers to unblock
Google Contacts lets you unblock all numbers belonging to a saved contact or just one. To allow all of the contact's numbers, open Contacts and select the person. Tap Contact settings > Unblock numbers, then confirm with Unblock.
To unblock only one number, open the contact and touch and hold that specific phone number. Tap Unblock number > Unblock. This lets you allow that number while keeping the contact's other numbers blocked.
Unblock texts in Google Messages
Open Google Messages, tap your profile photo or icon, then choose More options > Spam & blocked. Select the blocked contact or conversation and tap Unblock. If your profile menu shows Spam & blocked directly, select it there.
If the conversation has an automatic spam warning, open the affected conversation or warning and tap Report not spam. If you also blocked the sender, use Unblock to remove that restriction.
Samsung ended Samsung Messages service in July 2026 on US Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later. If you use an affected phone, manage number blocks in Samsung Phone or switch to Google Messages for texting. This service change does not apply to Samsung phones worldwide.
To switch, open or install Google Messages, tap Set default SMS app, select Google Messages, and tap Set as default. Then open the profile menu and find Spam & blocked, select the conversation, and tap Unblock. Check the blocked conversation after switching apps rather than assuming the switch removed its block.
Find the block on other Android phones
On a Xiaomi phone with this interface, open Phone, tap the three-dot menu, and select Settings > Blocked numbers. Tap the × icon beside the number. If your contact screen offers the alternative action, open Phone > Contacts, select the contact, scroll down, and tap Unlock numbers.
On an OPPO phone using its native Contacts app, open Contacts and touch and hold the person. Select Remove From Blocklist. For a blocked text, open Messages, use Settings or the three-dot menu, and select Block and Filter. Touch and hold a message from the sender, then choose Remove From Blocklist or Recover, whichever your phone displays.
On a Huawei Android or EMUI device with Optimizer, open Optimizer > Blocked > Block rules > Blocklist. Touch and hold the number, then tap Delete. Use these steps for the Android or EMUI interface, rather than a newer non-Android HarmonyOS device.
Fix filtering or silencing after unblocking
If the number is no longer blocked but calls still fail, check automatic spam filtering. In Phone by Google, open More options > Settings > Caller ID and spam, then turn off Filter spam calls. This disables automatic spam filtering broadly; the control is absent on devices using automatic Call Screen.
If the caller hides their caller ID, open Phone > More > Settings > Blocked numbers and turn off Unknown. Google says this setting applies to private or unidentified caller IDs. You do not need to disable it merely because an ordinary visible number is missing from your contacts.
On Samsung, open Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers. Turn off Block unknown/private numbers or Block calls from unknown numbers, whichever switch your phone shows. Samsung's US guide says the second switch blocks calls from numbers that are not saved in your contacts or identified by Smart Call. For Smart Call filtering, return to the Phone settings, open Caller ID and spam protection, and disable Block spam and scam calls. Smart Call availability depends on your carrier and model.
If calls connect without ringing, check notification silencing. On a Pixel with Modes, open Settings > Modes and select the active mode. Under Notification filters, select People and allow the relevant calls, messages, or conversations.
On Samsung, open Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb > Calls and messages. Choose Allow only select contacts > Add contacts, then select the person. These notification exceptions address silencing; they do not remove a number from a blocked list.
Remove a carrier level restriction
If your carrier also blocks the number, remove the restriction in its app. In Google Fi, open Account > Privacy & security, then select Block phone numbers under Spam and contact settings. Tap Remove beside the number, then Unblock.
For an eligible Verizon account, open My Verizon > Mobile > Manage devices and select your line if needed. Go to Settings & Preferences > Block calls & messages, then tap the X beside the number. You need appropriate account access, and this route is unavailable for lines enrolled in Verizon Family.
For T-Mobile Scam Shield filtering, open T-Life, select Manage or Account, then open Scam Shield. Select Allowed numbers > Menu, the three dots, and enter the 10-digit number or choose it from the call list. Tap Add to allow the caller through Scam Shield. This T-Life feature is available for postpaid accounts, not prepaid accounts, and does not clear a manual Android number block.
In AT&T ActiveArmor, open Calls & Texts > Calls > My Block List. Find the desired number and use the removal control shown for its block.
Unblock the caller inside a separate app
If you use Truecaller, open it, tap the block icon, and select My Blocklist. Tap the Minus symbol beside the number. Alternatively, search for the number, open its contact view, and tap Not spam. Truecaller says this action also unblocks personal numbers.
In Hiya, open Blocking > Block list. Find the number and tap Unblock or its X removal control. If calls remain filtered, check Hiya's broader rules as well, since removing a personal block does not disable those settings.
To restore Signal calls and messages, tap your profile icon to open Settings, then select Privacy > Blocked. Choose the contact and confirm with Unblock. This removes the restriction within Signal.
In Viber, open More > Settings > Privacy > Block list. Tap Unblock beside the name or number. Use this control when the missing calls or messages are in Viber.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you unblock a number from Google Messages on a computer?
Yes, open Google Messages for web and select More options > Spam & blocked in the conversation list. Find the contact, select Unblock, then Done. If your web interface syncs with Google Fi, use the Android unblocking instructions instead.
Does your Google Account blocked list include Android Phone blocks?
No, it covers phone-number blocks associated with Google Fi, Google Voice, and Google Meet, excluding Android Phone app blocks. To remove a relevant account block on Android, open Settings > Google > Manage your Google Account > People & sharing. Under Contacts, select Blocked, then Remove beside the entry.
Can saving a number stop Pixel Call Screen from screening it?
Yes, Google says Call Screen does not screen numbers saved as contacts. Open Contacts > Add, enter the name and phone number, then select Save. Saving the contact does not remove a manually created number block.
How do you unblock someone in Google Voice?
Open Voice > Calls or Voicemail, select an entry from the number, then choose More options > Unblock [number]. For a text conversation, open Messages, select the conversation, and choose More options > People & options > Unblock [number]. These controls affect communication through Google Voice.
Is deleting a spam blocking app enough to restore calls?
No, Verizon says deleting its app does not disable network spam filtering. If Hiya screening is active, first open Hiya Settings > Call Screening & Visual Voicemail > Deactivate and complete the prompts, because forwarding can persist after removal. You can then uninstall Hiya through Android Settings > Apps > Hiya > Uninstall.
