A banned Discord member can't rejoin your server just because you send them another invite. If you're the server owner or an authorized moderator, you can remove the ban from a computer or phone. Start with the server settings, then send a valid invite and address any ban error that remains.

Unban someone from your computer

Open your server's menu in the Discord desktop app or browser and select Server Settings. Find the banned account in the server's ban settings, then use that account's ban-removal control to remove the server ban.

You can use Discord in your browser without downloading or installing anything for this method. The browser option still requires the server owner or an appropriately authorized moderator to remove the ban. Keep a valid server invite ready to send once the ban is removed.

On Android or iPhone, use the server settings

To remove a ban in Discord's mobile app, open the server you moderate. Open the server menu, then tap Settings.

Open Bans and select the banned account. Then use the account's ban-removal control.

Invite the person back

A valid invite lets the person rejoin after you remove their ban. If your server uses Apply to Join, they may also need an approved application unless the invite was created by a member with the Kick Members permission to bypass that process.

On desktop, hover over a channel and click Create Invite beside it. Then share the invite link with the person you unbanned.

As another desktop option, right-click the person's profile and choose Invite to Server. Select the server you want them to rejoin, then ask them to accept the invite to rejoin your server.

Removing the ban restores their eligibility to join, but the returning person still needs to rejoin through your server's join method, such as accepting an invite, joining through Server Discovery, or getting an approved application. Sending a fresh link while the ban remains in place won't remove that restriction.

When you don't have permission to remove bans

Being a server member doesn't give you permission to remove bans. If you don't have that access, ask the server owner or an authorized moderator to remove the ban. If your server requires two-factor authentication for moderation actions, meet that requirement before trying to unban the account.

Creating a new channel invite requires the Create Invite permission. If your server is Invite Only, Discord's default, the returning member needs a valid invite link after the ban is removed. Someone with that permission can create one, or you can share an existing valid link.

If Discord still says the person is banned

A remaining IP-based server ban blocks rejoining even after the person's account ban is removed. Ask the server administrators to review the bans in Server Settings.

Revoking all server bans is a remedy for this error because Discord's server bans are IP-based. Before taking that action, account for its full effect: clearing every ban also restores eligibility for every other banned account. After the remaining restriction is resolved, send the person a valid server invite again.

Approve an appeal if your server uses Dyno

If Dyno Appeals is already configured to accept ban appeals, authorized staff can approve one inside Discord. Ask the banned person to submit the server's Dyno appeal form.

Open the configured submissions channel in Discord. Review the person's appeal, then select Approve.

To set up ban appeals, open the Dyno dashboard and select your server. Open Modules, then Moderation, then Settings, and then Appeals. Select or create the appeal form and allow ban appeals. This gives the banned person a form to submit for staff review.

Authorized staff can also handle the submission through the Dyno website. Sign in to the server's dashboard, open the appeal submissions list, and select the person's submission to approve it.

When the original ban has a timer

If the person received a timed ban through MEE6 Premium's Moderator plugin, you can allow its configured duration to finish. This option applies to an existing temporary ban created through that bot.

Ordinary Discord server bans don't use that MEE6 timer. If the original ban is permanent, remove it in Server Settings instead. MEE6's documentation doesn't describe using a new temporary ban to lift an existing one. Once the temporary ban ends, send the person a valid invite so they can accept it and return to the server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I unban someone through the Dyno website?

Yes. Authorized staff can also approve ban appeals through the server's Dyno dashboard. Sign in, open the appeal submissions list, select the person's submission, and approve it.

Will a Discord server ban expire automatically?

An existing timed ban created with MEE6 Premium's Moderator plugin ends when its configured duration finishes. That timer does not apply to ordinary Discord server bans. To lift a permanent ban, remove it in Server Settings.

Can a server owner reverse a Discord account suspension?

No. A Discord account suspension is separate from a server ban. Removing a server ban does not resolve an account suspension.
