Need to turn off iCloud Private Relay for a website or network? You can switch it off in iCloud settings, pause it temporarily, or make an exception for a single connection or site. Here’s where to find the controls on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

Turn off Private Relay on iPhone or iPad

Open Settings and tap [your name] at the top.

Go to iCloud, then Private Relay.

Turn off Private Relay.

Choose Turn Off Private Relay to keep it off. For a temporary pause, choose Turn Off Until Tomorrow. That option automatically turns protection back on within 24 hours.

If the pause ends and you still need Private Relay off, return here and choose Turn Off Private Relay. If you can’t use the device-wide switch, try the Wi-Fi or cellular controls below for the connection you’re using.

On a Mac, use your iCloud settings

Use this control to turn Private Relay off across your Mac or pause it temporarily. Private Relay requires access to iCloud+.

Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.

Click [your name], then open iCloud and select Private Relay.

Turn off Private Relay.

Select Turn Off Private Relay to keep it off, or Turn Off Until Tomorrow for a pause that ends within 24 hours.

Click Done to finish.

Keep the exception to one Wi-Fi network

This turns off Private Relay for a specific Wi-Fi network on your iPhone or iPad.

Open Settings.

Tap Wi-Fi.

Tap the More Info button beside the network, also called Actions Available.

Turn off Limit IP Address Tracking. The exception also applies to that network on devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

Repeat this change for each separate Wi-Fi network you want to exclude.

Disable it for a cellular line or plan

On an iPhone, open Settings.

Tap Cellular.

For a single line, open Cellular Data Options. If your line appears under SIMs, select it there instead; with multiple lines, select the relevant line under SIMs.

Turn off Limit IP Address Tracking.

On a Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad, open Settings.

Tap Cellular Data.

Open Cellular Data Options for one plan, or select the relevant plan under Cellular Plans for multiple plans.

Turn off Limit IP Address Tracking.

Repeat the change for each SIM, eSIM, or cellular plan you want to exclude from Private Relay.

Let one website see your IP address

Only need an exception for one site? A temporary website exception lets that site see your IP address while other websites remain protected. It ends when you leave the website or close its tab.

On an iPhone or iPad, open the website in Safari.

Tap the Page Menu button to the left of the search field.

Open Privacy & Security.

Tap Show IP Address. On iPad, use this option when it’s available.

On a Mac, open the website in Safari.

Choose View > Reload and Show IP Address.

If the website still doesn’t work, or the website exception isn’t available, try a temporary pause. Open Settings on iPhone or iPad, or System Settings on Mac, then go to [your name] > iCloud > Private Relay. Turn off Private Relay and choose Turn Off Until Tomorrow. On Mac, click Done.

Adjust Mac network exceptions for Wi-Fi and Ethernet

Open System Settings.

Select Network.

For a wireless connection, select Wi-Fi.

Click Details beside the connected network.

Turn off Limit IP address tracking.

For Ethernet, select your Ethernet connection name under Network.

In that connection’s settings, turn off Limit IP address tracking.

Configure Wi-Fi and Ethernet separately if you use both connections.

Switch off Private Relay on Apple Vision Pro

This turns Private Relay off on Apple Vision Pro or pauses it for up to 24 hours.

Open Settings.

Select [your name].

Open iCloud.

Select Private Relay.

Turn off Private Relay.

Choose Turn Off Private Relay to keep it off, or Turn Off Until Tomorrow to let it automatically re-enable within 24 hours.

Understand what these changes affect

The iCloud > Private Relay switch controls the feature for your device. A network exception applies to the selected network. A website exception ends when you leave the site or close its tab, so it doesn’t create a permanent allowlist.

Safari’s Hide IP Address setting controls Safari’s traffic. On iPhone and iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Hide IP Address and choose Off to disable Safari IP hiding. Choose Trackers Only to let websites see your address while retaining tracker protection.

Neither Safari option is the device-wide Private Relay switch, and Private Browsing is a separate feature. You don’t need to cancel iCloud+ or sign out of your Apple Account to turn Private Relay off. Those broader changes affect other Apple services or benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate app to turn off Private Relay?

No. The controls are built into your Apple device’s settings. No method requires downloading a separate Private Relay app.

Can I turn off Private Relay from Windows?

Windows isn’t a Private Relay client and has no direct Private Relay switch. iCloud for Windows lets you manage or cancel your iCloud+ plan, but that changes your subscription and other benefits.

Will canceling iCloud+ immediately disable Private Relay?

No. Access ends when the subscription ends, provided no other iCloud+ entitlement remains. Apple One or Family Sharing can still provide access. Losing paid storage can also interrupt syncing and backups.

Why can’t I enable Private Relay on a work or school device?

A device-management restriction can disable Private Relay and prevent you from enabling it. Apple supports this restriction on managed Macs and supervised iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro devices. Contact your administrator if that restriction applies.
