You’re already playing Roblox, but your friends can’t join you. Start by changing who can see your current experience, then test the join button on your profile. Private servers, parental controls, and console settings have separate permissions to check if that doesn’t resolve it.

Turn on visibility for your current experience

Start here when you want other players to join the experience you’re playing. This setting controls who can see your current experience.

Sign in to the Roblox account you want other players to join.

On the website, open Settings through the top-right gear. On mobile, open More at the bottom right, then Settings.

Open Privacy & content restrictions > Visibility & private servers > Visibility > Show current experience.

Choose an audience that includes the people you want to join you. Available audiences include friends, trusted friends, followers, users you follow, and everyone, depending on your age, region, and account restrictions. Not every account has the everyone option.

Review Online Status in the same panel if visibility remains restricted. Roblox’s related visibility settings constrain each other.

If an older tutorial sends you to Other Settings and Who can join me in experiences?, use Show current experience in the current path above.

Check whether a friend can join you

Enter an experience after changing your visibility. The profile join button appears when you’re playing and your settings permit the other player to follow you into the experience.

Ask a player included in your chosen audience to open your Roblox profile or find your username in search.

Have them select Join Experience. They also need permission to enter that experience; visibility does not grant access to a restricted game or private server.

If the button is missing, revisit Show current experience and Online Status to check that your settings include that player. If the button appears but entry fails, check the private-server permissions or parental controls below.

Set private-server permissions separately

For a private server you own, give players access through its configuration.

  1. 1.Open the experience page in the Roblox app or website and select Servers.
  2. 2.Open the three-dot Menu beside your private server, then select Configure.
  3. 3.Enable Friends Allowed to admit friends, or add individual usernames to Server Members. The limit is 50 individually added users.
  4. 4.To invite players by link, create a server link from this configuration page and share it with them. Recipients still need to meet private-server eligibility rules.
  5. 5.If a player’s settings prevent you from adding them, have them open Settings through the top-right gear on the website, or through More (...) and the gear in the mobile or desktop app. They should open Privacy and content restrictions > Visibility & private servers > Private servers and select an available audience that permits you to add them. Under-13 users can only join private servers created by friends, with additional restrictions depending on their account.

Resolve restrictions through the linked parent account

Linked parental controls manage a child’s private-server and game access.

Using the linked parent account, open Settings > Parental Controls.

Select the child.

Under Settings you manage, open Visibility & private servers > Private Servers.

Select Connections instead of Off. This controls both whose private servers the child can enter and who can enter the child’s servers.

For a Roblox Kids or Roblox Select game-access request, open Pending requests.

Select Allow for the requested game.

For a previously blocked game, open the child’s Content restrictions > Blocked games.

Select Unblock for that game.

Confirm the change.

For a maturity restriction, review Content restrictions > Content maturity.

Adjust console joining settings

On PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, cross-platform play must be enabled to play with people on other supported platforms.

In Roblox, open the top-right More icon > Settings > PlayStation Network Settings > Cross-Platform Play.

Enable Cross-Platform Play.

For two Xbox One players who are connected on Xbox, open Friends.

Select the other player.

Join their experience.

For someone joining an Xbox player from another platform, have the Xbox player enter the experience first.

Have the other player open the Xbox player’s Roblox profile.

Select Join Experience on that profile.

If joining still fails, check Show current experience to confirm that the joining player is included in your audience. Then check their permission to enter the experience using the private-server or parental controls above. Console joining options do not override those restrictions.

Use Party for a planned session with friends

Use Party when you want to bring friends into a game together on mobile, desktop, or console. It supports up to six people through invitations and is controlled separately from your Show current experience visibility setting.

Open Chat > Start Party.

Choose your friends.

Select Start. From an existing friend or group chat, select Start to begin there instead.

Use Add Friends within the Party menu for additional invitations.

Select Play.

Choose a game.

Select Join with Party.

Have recipients select Join in the notification or active group. Communication availability depends on age, region, and trust status.

For a managed child account with Party controls, open Settings > Parental Controls in the linked parent account.

Select the child.

Open Settings you manage > Communication > Party.

Set Party to Friends for two-person participation.

Set Group Party to Friends for groups of up to six.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a parent approve a game-access request from an email?

Yes. For a Roblox Kids or Roblox Select request, select View Settings in the request email, then select Allow.

How do I turn off Party participation for my child?

In the linked parent account, open Settings > Parental Controls and select the child. Open Settings you manage > Communication > Party. Set Group Party to No one to disable group parties while 1:1 Party participation stays available. Set Party to No one to disable Party participation and Party Chat altogether; that also defaults Group Party to No one.

Can I invite friends directly from inside a game?

Yes, in experiences that provide a friend invitation prompt. Choose the intended friends and select Invite; they receive an experience notification. The creator chooses how the prompt opens, so there is no universal menu path. Availability varies by player and platform.

Do I need to disable Account Restrictions or enter a parent PIN?

No. Roblox deprecated parent PINs and Account Restrictions on November 18, 2024. Use linked parental controls to manage applicable access restrictions.
