Tagging someone on Facebook should be quick, but the right control changes depending on whether you are writing a post, leaving a comment, adding a photo, posting as a Page, or using a group mention. Here is the clean path for each current Facebook tagging option, starting with the fastest method and moving into photos, timelines, Pages, groups, and tag controls for your own profile.
Tag Someone With @ in a Post or Comment
Click or tap inside the post or comment field where you want the tag to appear.
Type @, then start typing the person's name with the first letter capitalized.
Select the person's name from the list Facebook shows.
Finish writing your post or comment, then publish it.
Use the same @ method for Pages and groups that allow mentions.
Use Tag Friends in a New Post
Open the post composer from Feed by selecting What's on your mind?. From your profile, choose Post a status update.
In the composer, choose Tag friends, Tag friend, or Tag people. Facebook uses different labels on different posting surfaces.
Search for the friend, select their name, then publish the post.
Tag Someone in a Photo After Posting
This fixes a shared photo that needs a person or Page tag added after it is already posted.
Open the photo you want to tag.
On mobile, tap Tag in the top right.
Type the person's or Page's name in the text box.
Tap the checkbox next to their profile picture.
Save the tag flow when you are finished.
On desktop, click Tag in the top right of the photo.
Click the person in the photo.
Start typing their name.
Select the full name from the list.

Tag People Before Posting a Photo
Use this flow when you want the photo tag attached before the photo goes live.
- 1.At the top of Feed, tap Photo.
- 2.Select a photo from your camera roll, then tap Next or Done.
- 3.Tap Camera instead when you want to take a new photo.
- 4.In the composer, tap Tag people.
- 5.Select the person you want to tag, then publish the photo.
Post on a Friend's Timeline and Tag Someone
Go to your friend's profile, then click the box that says Write something to [Name] to start a post on that profile.
Write your message, or choose Tag friends to add another friend to the post before publishing.
If that timeline does not accept posts from you, create a regular post and tag the friend there instead.
Tag From Pages and Creator Tools
You need Facebook access to a Page before you can tag people or other Pages in that Page's photos, so task access alone is not enough. To tag from a Facebook Page, switch into the Page first by clicking your profile photo in the top right, selecting See all profiles, and choosing the Page. Then create or open the Page post or photo, type the profile or Page name in the tagging surface, and select it from the list.
Pages can tag other Pages or profiles in a Page post or photo. Tagging another Page works only when that Page has allowed others to tag it, and tagging a person in your Page's photos works only when the person has liked the Page and is at least 18.
For branded content in the Facebook app, create a post, tap Brand partnerships, then tap Tag a brand partner. Type the brand name, select the brand, complete any permission prompt, and publish.
In Meta Business Suite, open the Content tab, click Create post, upload your photos or videos, click Tag brand, choose the brand, and finish the post.
Use Group and Follower Batch Mentions
In a supported Facebook group post or comment, type @everyone.
Publish the post or comment to mention the group members Facebook includes in that batch mention.
Use @everyone only from a group admin or moderator account.
Skip @everyone in very large groups that do not support the batch mention.
For an eligible creator or profile with followers, type @followers in a supported post or comment.
Publish the post or comment to mention followers.
Accounts with no followers cannot use @followers.
Keep batch mentions for updates that need broad attention inside the eligible audience.
Control Tags on Your Own Profile
This fixes tagged posts appearing on your profile before you review them.
Tap Menu in the top right of Facebook.
Tap Settings & privacy.
Tap Settings.
Tap Profile and tagging.
Under Reviewing, tap the toggle next to Review posts you're tagged in before the post appears on your profile?.
To approve pending items, go to your profile from Menu.
Tap Options below your profile picture.
Tap Review posts and tags.
Tap Add to profile to approve a tagged post, or tap Hide to ignore it.
Fix Tagging Problems and Remove Tags
Use these controls when Facebook blocks a tag, when a tagged post needs a different audience, or when you want your name removed from something. Facebook no longer offers face-recognition tag suggestions, so photo tagging is manual.
A friend's timeline accepts your post only when that profile allows timeline posts from you. A Page tag works only within that Page's tagging permissions, and batch mentions work only for eligible admins, moderators, creators, or profiles.
To choose who can see tagged posts on your profile, open Menu, then Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Audience and visibility, then Profile and tagging. Select Who can see posts you're tagged in on your profile? and choose the audience you want.
To remove a tag, open your profile from Menu, tap Options, then Activity Log. Tap View Activity History, tap Filters, find the tagged item, open it, tap Options, and remove the tag.
